So I recently just found a forum that evolves around my niche. 5k members registered. 50+ users online all the time. May 2011 they had 26k unique visitors and 50k page visits. I contacted the admin and he said a regular banner on the homepage would run 99$ for 31 days. I am currently building a site focused on that niche. I'll be offering a FREE ebook. My website is an exact match domain with 33k monthly..It's going to take a while to reach #1 but I believe I'll reach that point.

Anyways is 100$ for 31 days a good investment? I'll have to also pay for hosting monthly...and until I do reach page #1 I'll keep purchasing the ad.

It's not the best price but it's not the worst. We have 2000 a day in our forum and only charge $149 a month for a rotating banner throughout.

Are they only offering the homepage? If so, be aware that not everyone uses the front door. You might have limited eyes for that price. Also, people tend to tune out banners so keep this in mind when designing yours. Does it capture their attention? Does it have a call to action? Will your offer stand out?

    Hope this helps a bit.

    Don't waste your money.

We are still in a recession.

Money is hard to come by....

Yeah, don't waste your money. You should stick on focusing on getting #1 on google instead.

I think buying a sticky post or a category sponsorship would be more effective - people really do read those. Ask him if he offers these options.

You'd be paying a little over $3 a day for a month. Assuming the vast majority of visits begin on the home page, you'd have 800+ eyes seeing the ad.

If 1% clicked on it, that would be 8 people. So... the question is, how good is your squeeze page? If you can convert four of the eight, you cost per signup would be $.75 each. So ask yourself, is that something you'd be willing to do, pay say, 75 cents to a buck per lead?

For this to work you'd need a really good banner and a really good optin page, really good. Those numbers could be considerably off otherwise.

I might be able to get closer if I knew the niche and a bit about the people who hang out at the forum. 50% conversions are not unusual if the giveway is good and if the copy on the squeeze page is also very good. It goes without saying the banner has to be exceptional. Good luck.

Don't go for putting up a banner there.. Use that forum in another way. Put signature links and answer to the queries of people
