looking for help monetizing a 10k list

Hi,

I have no problem creating opt-in lists. However, it seems I don't quite understand how to monetize them. Or perhaps more specifically, 'general' lists. (With 'highy targeted' lists, and I mean super-targeted, I can seem to generate 1-5 sales/mailing, but perhaps that could be increased significantly as well, because 1-5 sales/mailing for about 1k subscribers for a 'targeted' niche seems rather low).

I have one list, 10k subscribers (actually I've pruned it down from about 12k from ppl who didn't open since signing up), built up over the last 5-6 months. I've experimented with everything from straight 'buy now' messages, to providing 'freebies', to providing 'useful content' then a buy now, to an autoresponder sequence, then periodic mailings... yet, I don't seem to get *any* buyers... I have read materials on it's in the list, but don't quite get it. And actually, quite frankly I've been considering just deleting them from my aweber account, because there is no point paying $100/month for something that isn't generating an income.

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of someone's who's autoresponder sequence works well. Or, if someone on here who has something working wouldn't mind working with me to develop a successful autoresponder sequence & periodic mailings. (If you have some quality products, I could promote those in exchange for you helping me out, or perhaps we could work something else out).

Anyways, let me know.

Thanks!

It depends on what type of product you are offering them.. Would you mind telling us how you got this big list? Are all of your subscribers looking for SAME information?
For example, I build a list of subscribers who want to get information on cuing yeast infection. I send them follow ups. They will only buy a product if they are interested in it. Make sure your readers are looking for the same information that you are providing them.

Second thing is the way you present your email/follow up..
Make it nice and less PROMOTION oriented!

Hmm, it could be it... I'm not sure. Basically for this list of 10k is from me just putting an opt-in form on a bunch of different websites, and saying 'Sign up here for info on how to run a better business'.

I thought it would be possible to market to this group (since they actually opted in), but the traffic sources are from diverse properties.

I think you're doing something wrong with your e-mails ..

The way you write those e-mails has a huge impact on opening rates etc

I will be launching a product soon .. maybe we can do some biz

Well, here is what works well for me:

Let's say I promote a product about affiliate marketing. I would create a great free video about affiliate marketing, how to do it and why it is important. It would be a 5-25 minute video and at the bottom of that video I have a link to a related product, in this case about affiliate marketing.

People are happy, because almost every message that they get from me involves a free piece of content and I am happy as well, because I make much more money that way, because I sell something with every email and because I educate them about the specific topic, the conversions tend to be really higher.

    Hope this helps,

    Matt

We can all guess at what the problem may be or you can find out for sure.

The way you find out is by asking the people on your list what they want.

You can use free software online to put together a survey and offer a free report in exchange for taking it. I use zoomerang to do the survey.

Come up with 12 product ideas, and ask them if they'd buy any of them and how much they would pay. Ask them if the ideas they like are unique.

Once you find out what they want, offer it to them!

why don't you survey your list....just ask them what you can do to
    help them.

to create surveys you can use a tool like survey monkey or askdatabase.
