Picking a domain name for my Amazon site

Can any one help me with this?

Say I want to promote an Amazon affiliate site tthat sells lava lamps,

Surely
lavalamps.com is taken, so I'd need to go with something else. From what I know putting something in front of the product wouldnt be such a good decision ( I could be wrong). Could anyone shed some light onthis?

first try the .net .org domains and if they are not available then I would have no problem doing something like www.BestLavaLamps.com DiscountLavaLamps.com or even Lava-Lamps.com which I have still ranked well for.

There are lots of permitations you can choose if you cant get the exact domain

lavalampreview.com or .net / .org will work also

First try lavalamp.net / .org and then go for things like lavalampx.com (.net / .org), lavalampsite.com (.net/.org). Always try to look for .com

OK, from the answers everyones given it seems as though it could go either way, I may just be over thinking it. Just dont want to "kill" my chances @ achieving results by choosing the wrong domain name

Just makes sure you have the main keywords in the domain name as long as you have that then just backlink with the correct keywords that you want to rank for.

The domain name is just one of the many things that will help you rank for specific keywords.

It is better that you do some keyword research and find related keywords that have a reasonable demand e.g. discount lava lamps - in such cases you may go for an exact domain name if it is available e.g. discountlavalamps.com, discount-lavalamps.com

Or, if you want to stick to your main keyword lava lamps, you can even go for short extensions such as lavalampsguide.com, lavalampssite.com - Use your imagination

I agree with Roger - check out your buying keywords first. There's no point trying to rank for "lava lamps" when that could just be people looking for pictures of them. If you can find a less competitive but more focussed keyword then that could also become your domain name.

This is spot on and exactly what I would do.

Great advice so far, but don't get too bogged down in this decision. It's far more important for you to get that site up and get some traffic to it, then to worry too much about the exact-exact match domain.

Why don't you try add a single letter at the end of the domain?

Like lavalampsx.com or lavalampsv.com? It may still rank you well, as long your buyer keyword is present on the domain name.

Hope this will be a good tip for you.

Most people seem to focusing on finding near match domains but you need to be focusing on finding low competition ,high search volume keywords.

Exact match domains are more powerfull, especially in the early days of your site. So do your keyword research first, look for exact match domains, if not available any near match domain (that includes all your keywords). If you do go for near match domains then up your search volume baseline a little to help offset the extra work you will need to do to get top rankings.
