Hi guys... I have an amazon site, and I'm trying to get a press release together.

I'm going to out source it, but don't even know what pointers to give... what are they supposed to be about?

Should it be the latest developments with my product? Why my product is awesome, how it can save you money (which is true)

If I do a press release I am asking my self the questions you mentioned. I always focus on how my products adds to a persons day to day life.

Then ask yourself again, what is the point of the press release? Getting backlinks? Or just a heads up?

Just make sure you have some great content, google loves that.

If we are talking about a press release, then you should ask yourself is it a new product on amazon that has just came out and you want the outsourcers to write relating to that. Press releases is a good way of getting ranked on google fast regardless of the keyword competition as Google love news articles. However they have a short life as they are on the first page of google temporary and then go down. However it's still a good way of getting instant free traffic. First of all you should pay an outsourcer that is skilled and has written press releases before, so they will know how it's structered and how to write a proper press release. It all depends on the content you have e.g. new product release, something newsworthy.

A press release is supposed to be newsy, journalistic. Most PRs you find online are nothing more than articles, spammy articles at that. Your question is, what do you want to announce? What's the purpose of the PR?

Did you just come online? That might be newsworthy. Did you just add some great new products to your line? That could work. A press release is supposed to do more than just say, "Hey everyone, here I am..."

And even if you outsource this it's likely the person you get to do it won't have a clue as to how it's supposed to be written. A PR should answer these questions:

    Who?
    What?
    Why?
    When?
    Where?
How (sometimes this is included if it fits)

Here's a page explaining a lot about press releases. I have no affiliation with this guy but he knows his stuff. Good luck.
