How much could I charge for this domain name?

Hey everyone,

As the title says, how much could I charge for this domain name: www.olympuscamera.org

It has 33k+ Exact searches per month with easy competition.

Also, what's your advice, should I turn it into an Amazon site or sell the domain name?

Thanks,

Scylin

  • You can charge as much as the highest someone is willing to pay, why don't you post and have people make an offer so you get an idea of the ballpark where you are at.

      Thanks for the reply,

Where should I post it then?

        Thanks for the reply,

That website is for appraising websites, not domain names. There's nothing on the domain yet and I don't know whether or not I'll do that.

Since it's a .org (organization) domain, it's not technically suited for a commercial site such as an Amazon product site. Not to mention there is possibility of trademark infringement with the brand name Olympus.

Most domainers stay away from .net, .org, .us and the dreaded .info TLD's as well as trademark domains.

My advice if you want to monetize it would be to setup a discussion forum related to the keyword topic. You could use eBay Partner Network to target specific products like seen here Phillies Forum and create highly targeted ads for Olympus camera fans.

Of course, you could always have a section on the forum to post reviews and feed those reviews via RSS just as you would a blog.

      Hope this helps.

        Thanks for your reply.

Just a question though, I see tons of sites named canon(insert model name)review.com for example.

A lot of these sites are using them as Amazon review sites and earn income through that, shouldn't that be trademark violation as well?

Possibly, though that will depend on the trademark holder if they can realistically
go after some or all of them. You can also go to uspto.gov and search under the
          serial number 77473170.

Yes, there are thousands of trademark violations by ill-informed affiliates everywhere. Some of those stories end in tears. If you use someone's trademark in a domain-name for commercial purposes, you're risking not only the forfeiture of the domain-name but the recovery of any/all money you've ever earned from it. (I don't mean "you", necessarily, but "the person buying it" - which is why it may have little real value, I'm afraid).

This very recent thread will interest you: it includes comments from a lawyer ("kindsvater").

Please excuse my being such a skepchick, but it seems absolutely inconceivable to me that "Olympus" has unaccountably failed to trademark their name.

That would be a trademark for the Olympus Camera and related products - you would probably be best to approach the corporation for permission to use the domain.

      You can search here:
      http://tess2.uspto.gov/

I guarantee you that it's trademarked. I also guarantee you that Olympus in different categories is also trademarked.

As for where you can post it ... in Complete Sites for Sale in Warrior Forum, on Flippa, afternic, sedo. But on several of those if it is a trademark issue in the domain, they won't accept it.

As for how much it is worth. Only a buyer can tell you that. It's worth what someone is willing to pay.

It is a trademark but it's very unlikely you would have any letters through the post.

Facebook have now trademarked the word FACE.

Facebook has been issued a “Notice Of Allowance” by the US Patent And Trademark Office for trademarking the word “Face”, as first pointed out by Aaron Greenspan on Hacker News.

I would test it, you can sell it for much more.

It seems you are sitting on something nice, but you should jus test things first.

Okay, sorry for the late reply.

It's trademarked, but I don't think I'd get much problems with it tbh.

    I'll take my chances!

    Thanks for the replies everyone!

What about Blogger subdomains? Like sonyXYZ.blogspot.com?

I've seen several people doing this with amazon review sites for a particular model of TV, camera, etc.
