Autoresponders Question

Are there any free Autoresponders out there that perform the functions I'd need to make a marketing campaign and create my list? I know that Aweber is 1 dollar right now, but I have no access to a credit card to purchase it so I am curious if there is a free alternative. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi drimaffli

There are several free autoresponder services out there.

    Here are a couple:

Free Autoresponders, No advertising from others on your follow up email autoresponder
List Wire - The world's best FREE Autoresponder!

Having said this, it is my personal opinion that if you are serious about making money online, you should find some way to invest in a paid autoresponder service or at worst, use a self hosted script which you can buy and install on your own hosting account. This way you have a little more control.

You never know if a free service will one day vanish and take all your subscribers with you. This would be VERY unlikely to happen with a reputable paid service.

The amount you'll pay for a good autoresponder service such as Aweber (or many of the similar services) will be far less than what you should make if you have a responsive list.

Just my two-pence. Hope it helps.

    Aaron

I am going to switch to a paid provider when I get the money, at this time I am working on a shoestring budget. I spent what I had to buy my domain name and hosting. I was unaware of the importance of Autoresponders and the domain name when I started, so now I am just trying to do damage control and make a little money to get things straightened out.

Is this a joke? I sincerely hope so...

If not, are you really accusing me of potentially stealing client data from our List Wire users? That's a bold, and irresponsible, and completely irrational claim to put it nicely...

We're not going to steal anyone's data, not now, and not ever...

If you need a free autoresponder, we're here for you at List Wire.

Gary, the reality is that a lot of people really do set up fly-by-night email services that have no purpose other than to steal your lists and spam the crap out of them.

And you know, I've looked at your service, but I simply do not understand why the hell you are doing this. It doesn't make sense to me, and when something doesn't make sense to me I fall back on the default explanation "it's probably some sort of trick."

If you could explain why you're giving ListWire out for free in a way that sounds like reality instead of "because flowers and rainbows and FOAR THE CHILDREN," it would go a long way for me. Because

        I HATE AWEBER

but I have no reasonable alternative. I sure would like one, though.

Another thing is that it is not always possible to import names from a free/discount auto-responder service. AWeber often would let you do that if there isn't a good, solid audit trail showing where the names came from and that they were a double opt-in. So the names you collect with your "free" auto-responder may be lost if you switch to a quality one down the road. Just a thought. --Mike

It is also capricious, unpredictable, and generally hostile to marketers.

If you look in their terms of service, you will find that they prohibit affiliate marketing.

They do not mean on their service. They mean anywhere. If you have an affiliate link in a forum signature, on a website, or sent out in email... and MailChimp finds out about it... they will delete your account and your list in a heartbeat.

Even if you didn't do it through them.

In fact, many people here in this forum (including myself) have had their accounts deleted for even asking about prohibited businesses. I asked exactly what I was allowed to do in terms of promoting products, and they basically said "f#$k you, that's what" and deleted my account.

ditto what CDarklock said about MailChimp.

Try iContact. They allow you to have up to 500 subscribers for free.

You can also try using a php type autoresponder. Its onetime cost if you don't want to pay monthly, not sure how effective it is though.

Thanks for the heads up on mailchip. I am glad I did not go through and start setting it up. I did look at iContact though and will probably be going with it. Shireen I will be getting my autoresponder when I have the money, however in the mean time I need a solution to start making money.

I really think that you should wait till you have a credit card. You don't want to build a list with your free auto-responder and then start a new list.

I tend to agree that iContact might be the best for you right now given your current circumstance. It's free till 500 subscribers so you have some time to build up your business.

    Good luck buddy!

I currently use Listwire as my autoresponder due to its unlimited subscriber feature with no limits. Unlike Aweber (although I respect them), you need to pay $19 a month for limited subscribers and you need to upgrade if you want to increase the number of subscribers.

Paid Autoresponders are much better. I am using Autoresponseplus. I paid around $200 for lifetime membership

Wow! That just about ELIMINATES anyone that could possibly have something to
publish in an email newsletter, doesn't it!

See here - Terms of Use | MailChimp - in section 11 - f, specifically:
    Prohibited Content and Industries
Don't use MailChimp to send anything offensive, to promote anything illegal, or to harass anyone. You may not send:

Pornography or other sexually explicit Emails
Emails offering to sell illegal substances
Emails that violate the CAN-SPAM Law
Also, there are some industries that send certain types of content that result in higher than normal bounce rates and abuse complaints, which in turn jeopardize the deliverability of our entire system. No offense intended, but because we must ensure the highest delivery rates possible for all our customers, we do not allow businesses that offer these types of services, products, or content:

    Illegal goods or services
    Escort and dating services
    Pharmaceutical products
Work from home, Internet Lead-gen, Make money on online opportunities, etc.
Online trading, day trading tips, or stock market related content
Gambling services, products or gambling education
    Multi-level marketing
    Affiliate marketing
    Credit repair, get-out-of-debt content
    Mortgages and/or Loans
    Real estate prospecting or listing
Nutritional Supplements, Herbal Supplements or Vitamin Supplements
    Pornography or nudity in content
Adult novelty items or references in content
List brokers or List rental services
Marketing or sending commercial email without proper permission
Generally speaking, if you're in an industry that is frequently associated with spam, you know who you are (it's probably why you're reading this far, right?). We make no judgments about your line of business, but we cannot afford to risk our deliverability. In fact, most ESPs like MailChimp will not be able to help you. You will most likely need to look into setting up your own mail servers. The term to search on is "email delivery server." There are many industrial strength MTAs to choose from with built-in delivery and reporting tools for high-volume senders.
Someone (anyone), give me an example of any industry that does business online,
that would need an autoresponder service, that does NOT violate any one of those terms...
    I dare ya!

Makes one wonder who exactly "uses" mailchimp?

    Be Well!

      This is the killer, here.

MailChimp is primarily for people who are doing hobby or nonprofit work. There's a whole world of people who, believe it or not, want to communicate with people just to talk to them - and actually do not in any way expect to sell anything or make any money.

That's a perfectly valid niche, and they're entirely within their rights to focus on it, and my only real complaint with them is that they're basically just dicks about it.

It's one thing to say "ooh, we really don't do that here, perhaps try AWeber or GetResponse" and let people export their lists... but it's quite another to say "YOU BUTTLICKING ******* MARKETER! YOU GO TO HELL! YOU GO TO HELL AND YOU DIE!" before locking them out of the system.

I have been with Aweber for several years and even was a beta tester for their analytics stuff and I can't say enough good about them. They are considered the cadilac of autoresponders and most people love them.

I've toyed with the idea of getting a script hosted on my domain, but the problem is that even if you get a dedicated ip (which you should do btw so you don't share the same ip with others!) you have to do all the work to make sure that it doesn't get blocked. Worse yet, you also have to worry about delverability. Aweber has all this covered for you.

And correct me if I'm wrong, but I think when you import a foreign list from another autoresponder, even with ip information, each one you import has to RE-OPT IN in order to stay on your list which sucks!

    Just food for thought.

      Here's what you do.

Get a new account on a new service, but keep your existing one.

Now setup new lists on your new service, and attach each of them to an opt-in with a free bonus, just like before. But NEW free bonuses.

Now tell your existing list that you're gearing up for something else new and cool, and to go sign up on the new list.

You've got a MONTH to sell them on it. And there's the new freebie in it for them.

Your transfer rate will be MASSIVELY higher than an import.

@CDarklock That's super ninja bro, great tactic!

@bpollina If ya didn't wanna do that, you can just get an iContact account where you can import leads without requiring them to opt in again. Only service I know of that does that...

iContact and GetResponse are free for up to 500 subscribers.

If you can get a few hundred subscribers, you should be making enough money from that be able to get an upgrade or switch to Aweber and import your contacts.
