Is it possible to still do this program if I live in NC, but I have relatives elsewhere where I can get checks sent...or will I pull a wesley snipes and wind up in the big house?

Alternative - Have relatives deposit checks, give me $$$, pay taxes later.

don't mean to bump my own post so much but really looking for some feedback

I mean are there any legal issues with them getting a check for my work, depositing it, then writing me one? Will we both have to pay taxes on one amount of money? That's the only thing that worries me here.

  • I think the reason you are having no responses is because you dont really ask the riught question. Amazon and NC.... Are you talking about amazon associates program or something completely different?

Yes, sorry. I'm in North Carolina, one of the states Amazon Affiliates can't be associated with. I'm looking for a way around this.

There are actually quite a number of options. You can move or incorporate in another state, or become an affiliate with nexus programs who are paying state taxes such as Walmart, Best Buy, etc. This may also take effect in California, in which case I'm prepared to dump Amazon for similar products in other affiliate programs. There really is no advantage for starting out with Amazon in your state, with so many other viable choices.

I guess my concern is virtually everyone shopping online has an Amazon account...whereas the Walmart/Best Buy/Target accounts will be scattered.

Anyone else got an opinion on this? Specifically with Amazon vs Walmart?

    Joel,
most IM ers I know in NC have just stopped promoting Amazon affiliates since its not worth the risk of the tax man or losing your account on Amazon (and accumulated earnings) should amazon find out. Talking with a local CPA firm I know there were 3 full time amazon affiliate who simply moved out of state - to TN and SC - to deal with it. Of course they were doing 6 figures too. You really should discuss this with your accountant or lawyer. I would also be careful about incorporating in another state since you will then have 2 sets of forms to fill out - why? just incorporating in another state still requires you to register as a foreign corporation in NC. sorta defeats the purpose. What several of us have discuss was forming a partnership with someone in another state - but again you should discuss this with an lawyer.

    good luck,

      Hey joel1031,
Amazon Vs Walmart is quiet interesting but besides shopping at Amazon never actually thought critically about comparisons. You can definitely earn a 6 figure, hope you're with the right program.
