What Do ALL Newbies Need to Know?

by inconf

Hi All,

I have been making money online now for a number of years by selling physical goods, I am now venturing into the IM world.

It is a totally different set of rules for selling information online and much harder to get a foothold in, I have recently launched a blog and squeeze page which are doing OK, but could be better!

So with this in mind and advice on what us newbies to the IM world need to know to succeed would be greatly appreciated?

What do my fellow newbies need to know, are you suffering information overload like me?

Thanks in advance!!

Simple - don't waste time posting this sort of question. Start implementing what you have already learnt. That’s it, the more action you take the more it just snowballs from there. In your first 6 months only ask questions that are directly related to the action you are trying to take. Like - How do I do this?

The best advice I can give you is to learn how to set up a website, how to take orders, how to market your site, etc.

If you learn all these 3 very important aspects of making money online, you will do well.

Take your time. Master each step at a time.

Exactly; Pick a business model and stick with it. After you have it up and running, THEN you can look at implementing another model (if you want to).

Coming from someone "relatively" new. I now consider myself past the 'newbie" status. I say that because I followed the advice already mentioned. I got focused, learned what I needed to (to get up and running), and am now working on getting the word out.

There is SO much to distract you. It can get expensive fast too. Pick one thing and work it through....

This forum is a GREAT resource for "how to" info. And lastly I'll leave you with this...... FOCUS!

Agreed, take action, take notes, just don't take no for an answer! If this is something you really want to do, stick with it. Anyhow, I noticed a lot of newbies are very eager to make money, but they don't have the funding to outsource things like uploading files, setting up wordpress sites, basically all the little things that make it possible to do IM, management and so on.

Newbies need to know the behind the scene "busy" work as well as the killer methods that make IM possible...just what I see.

Information overload and changing horses in midstream have been my biggest issues thus far. Tom Bartlett hit the nail on the head. Only ask questions that are directly related to what you're doing right now.

Here's a fun exercise for keeping your focus. Since your brain can only process seven (plus or minus two) pieces of information at a time, it's useful to define what exactly you are trying to learn or do. Targeted thinking, if you will. Give yourself a title and basically, a job description.

I'm enjoying the concept of framing this whole thing as an RPG. In the RPGs I've played, each class kind of starts out the same. Grind to get some XP and eventually, you'll start to specialize. In internet marketing, some people will become SEO Wizards, some Wordsmiths, others Bards (video marketers), eWarriors (e-commerce individuals), ect. At first though, were all scrambling to get started, visiting the same newbie zones (Fiverr, eBay). You'll never learn every class in one shot so pick one and get started. I've heard that Level 60 Copy-Mancers get the spell, "Turn S*** Into Solid Gold"

Firstly DO NOT GET overwhelmed, its easier said then done, and I still do from time to time. But a lot less because I realized how simple making money online or offline is... here is the secret:

Just monetize something, like online content (blog), and drive traffic to it. Simple!

Now, monetizing is simple. Driving traffic is the hard part and would require me to sit in this chair typing for a good week about all the possible ways to drive traffic to your site.

So my advice, go create some pages of unique content that customers will love with affiliates links or other monetization applied, then drive traffic. Then simply sit back and watch the money come-in...

It takes time, it took my 1 year to achieve online success, so be patient, and I never knew half of what I am telling you until the 1 year mark, so you are in a much better position then when I first started out, goodluck

The word "time" stands for This I Must Experience. There's a lot to learn, so just learn what you can each day - and as other people have said, choose a direction and go. Focus = Follow one course until successful.

The money is in the list.

    Hey there!

Just curious, what physical goods were you selling? Maybe there is an IM affiliate equiv that you could jump right into?

Example: In the real world you sold household high end candles

IM Potential: http://www.clickbank.com/mkplSearchR...eywords=candle <-- Candle products you could affiliate sell via Clickbank

    Hi inconf!
I think everyone goes through the info. overload syndrome at some point so I get past it by creating a monthly/weekly/daily priority list and focus on my list everyday to help me make progress!
I recommend you spend time developing relationships and getting other folks that are in the IM Niche To help you leverage building an IM List,Also look for any opportunity to build a targeted IM List using safeswaps,co reg,Giveaways and more, Try doing a little hunting to see if you can find someone that's in the IM niche That May consider also Working in the Physical product area that maybe you can help them and vice Versa
Make sure you blog is related to IM and That You are continually giving good content/free stuff and recommendations, also try using a entry pop as well as an exit pop with a really good quality freebie(just make sure its related to IM also)
Look for other related blogs to try and do link exchanges( spend 80 percent of your time trying to find leveraged ways to get traffic and build a list. If you can afford it then outsource your blog content and link building and spend time cultivating relationships to hel each other. I could go on but we would be here for hours.
Good luck my friend and expect hard work and as you build a list and relationships, your efforts will pay off and life becomes easier!

    Just my $0.02.

Whatever you do, make sure it has a BIG pay off. Which usually means you have to be involved in / go after something very competitive.

For example, if you're building an affiliate website and want to use SEO to get traffic (like I do), go after a BIG buying keyword with LOTS of exact monthly searches.

Sure, it'll be tough to rank, but it will be a worthwhile goal, which will make you work harder and stay focused. And the pay off will be more than worth it.

The reason I think most people fail in this biz is because they get scared of the competition for competitive markets, and stick with less competitive niches that have a lower pay off. And they get discouraged when they put in a ton of effort but still don't see a decent pay off.

Again, just my $0.02, and I'm sure people will disagree with what I've said.

I think it's very important to first concentrate on your mission and vision. Staying true to what you believe in is what will help you to get through the obstacles you'll meet along the way. You really have to know your purpose for starting the business and stay true to it. Second, it's important to build strong relationships with your customers and this is best done by making sure that you're offering genuine service. The rest of the technicalities can be learned but it's crucial to have a strong foundation.

Asking a question does not hurt, it means that you can ask question and if you are not satisfied you can ask somebody, the key is never hesitate to as question and don't be satisfied to only one answer try to explore, there is always 2 side of the coin, one is the truth and a side that that he is the truth.

Newbies need to have a proven method/formula/system to follow and for the best results I believe it would be best if they got an experienced mentor to hold them by the hand and show them precisely what it is they have to do in order to make money selling digital products. Thank God for my mentor, (Jon McNeil) he revealed the secret of selling in the IM world in an email for free and I've been working with that idea since. So far it's been working out great and I can't thank him enough for it. One of the tips he gave me was to provide a lot of value to your list and build a relationship with them. If you don't do this then you can definitely prepare for a lot of unsubscribes when a product launch comes out...

    Inconf,

Here's something I missed when I was green, either from lack of paying attention or listening to the wrong schm-- err experts: pick a market segment that loves to spend money. There's plenty of low-hanging fruit out there, and there's a maxim you can follow to find it: "If other people are making money in this market, I can too."

    Hope this helps,

    Jon

Think of your venture like the business that it is, and not to get some quick cash.

Focus on ONE thing, keep working at it, keep going, keep going until you have made money with it. Then tweak & test til the cows come home until it is the most effective you can make it.

Do not allow yourself to become a jack-of-all-trades and a master of none.

Build a List of Qualified Leads!! Every time you generate an online interaction try and capture their email address!

Lets so you promote a hosting company, and are making a ton with a huge downline.. and now the hosting company goes out of business randomly with no warning...

What do you do? You have to start over from the ground floor..

BUT if you had been building a list of leads you can easily just plop out an email or two and have a huge leap on your new product you are promoting... Many people on your email list will even be receptive to multiple offers and you can sell multiple items to these same people as opposed to just one and done..

Every website should have an opportunity to input an email address and you should be leveraging this info with a great auto responder and automatic email series that is sent to each subscriber..

And like the above said, track everything, improve upon what is working, drop what isn't.. find a good product that people NEED and stick with it, brand yourself, build relationships.. It's not as hard or as complicated as people make it out to be, just look at it as what it is - a business! You will have expenses as well as incomes, you will need to generate leads and leverage them to generate sales.. as well as offering follow up and support to leads and previous customers.. it sounds like a lot but make a daily, weekly, monthly, plan.. and do it.. as you start coming up with a formula that is working, scale it up

Very good suggestions already given and I'd like to add mine.

    1. You can start at ANY age and be successful
    2. You don't need a lot of money to get started
    3. If you focus, you can do well with only small bits of your time at first
    4. No matter what the state of the economy, people will always be buying online. Why not your stuff?
    5. You don't need to be good with computers in order to succeed
This is just a shortlist but some that I know will always be true, no matter what year, age or the state of the economy at the time someone decides to get involved in IM.

First of all you have to find your market. Look for buyers before looking for products. Then, sell to these people what they are already buying from someone else. Offer better conditions and bonuses. This is the easiest way.

I did everything the other way around. I created my products, then I looked for my market, etc. You have to begin by finding buyers and give them the products they are already buying if you want to make fast money as an online seller. Otherwise you’ll have many adventures like me.

A major thing that people need to know but isn't taught much is being able to handle the inevitably "bad times" and rejection that your business faces.

Let's break some of the most common ones down...

Someone is on your list and sends you a very nasty email

---> Odds are they aren't really that mad it you they are probably having a very bad day but this will throw a lot of people off for the entire day

    Someone unsubscribes

---> Good for them plenty more people out there and heck congrats are in order for you taking action and getting someone on your list in the first place - but people tell me they are too afraid to email their list because someone might unsubscribe... what's the point of having a list if you are afraid of them unsubscribing?

    You get a refund

--> Not always a bad then... lets say you have a 10% refund rate (if it's a lot higher than that something is probably wrong and you should improve your product) that means for every 10 sales you'll have 1 refund... heck retaining 9 out of 10 customers is better than most ClickBank launches as of late. So congrats again!

    It just isn't working

--> We all encounter tough times the person who scares me the most is the one with the Midas touch and who will NEVER ever admit that they've "failed" at something

You send traffic and they don't buy

--> What was the quality of the traffic? How's your offer compare to others in the market place? Are you split testing? How can you improve it? A lot of people will send a miniscule amount of traffic and just give up don't be that guy.

Once you have the mindset right IM really isn't that hard and a lot of it's outsourceable but when that mindset gets shaky that's when it starts going wrong.
