Don't Know Where to go with site - Advice needed....

Hi Everyone.... I will try to make this brief and to the point. So, I have a weight loss related site that has been getting about 100 unique visitors a day for about the past 6 months and I have had ZERO conversions. Admittedly 100 visitors a day isn't a lot in the big scheme of things, but if I put more SEO effort into it will get a lot more ( I haven't been doing much SEO with it at all in the last 3 or 4 months but I still continue to get 100-ish visitors a day).

If I can't get 1 sale out 18,000 unique vistor's then I can only assume that the problem is in my site design. I also should add that before I started my SEO efforts with this domain I did pay someone from GAF to design the site. However, I think design of the site looks to much like the sale page.

So, in summery, I need some advice because I know there is potential here and I need some help on unlocking it. I think that the site design resembles the product page to much... I'm considering doing a 100% site re-design as well?

Has anyone ever had this problem? What did you do?
Anyone have any experience in the weight loss niche? What worked for you?
Do lists work? Like "Top 10 Weightloss supplements" ...
Can anyone recommend me to someone who is good at site design?

Thoughts ?!?

THANK YOU!
Becky

  • Well without seeing your site it is hard to comment precisely. However From what I understand you are selling an affiliate product through your site but you have more of a sales page linking to the main sales page rather than a pre-sales or review page.

I would possibly suggest trying to build a mailing list that you can build more of a relationship with. You have to be able to answer the question "why would they buy from me over my competition"?

Hope this helps you some what, I am not in the weight loss niche so someone else may want to give you some niche specific advice.

I went the mail list route once, no luck. I can't post the link because I don't have enough posts...

Your Ad copy for your main page may need some copywrite work quite simply. Words are very powerful when used correctly Can you try to PM me the link to your page so I can have a look and give you some free recommendations?

Mailing list works better than direct sale from the site in my experience.

I don't know what your site looks like but in my opinion it shouldn't look anything like a sales page. Weight loss product consumers probably have at least at one point tried losing weight and have failed and therefore somewhat sensitive to the issue. If you try to sell them something right off the bat, its most likely that they won't go for it (and think its a scam).

It's more effective to provide free tips and guides on how to lose weight naturally (promoting exercise, and healthy diet) and build a trust with the visitors then send an email out much later to promote products. Even then I stay away from promoting diet pills and weird supplements that I would never take for myself. Once you get some trust from the visitors, you promote a lot of different weight loss guides, educational materials, and even exercise equipments (which can cost a lot).

    Some Possible causes of this:

    1. If its your own product, your buy links might not be working.
    2. If its an affiliate product, the affiliate link might not be working correctly.
    3. The 18,000 visitors are poorly qualified for whatever you are delivering. You might be number 1 for "free information on weight loss", and thus no one would be "credit card in hand customers". So maybe your keyword targeted is wrong.
    4. Possibly you are not delivering what the keyword promises, look at other sites who rank for the same keyword, what do they do differently
    5. People are getting savvy, old style sales pages are... not to start a flame war, but in my opinion dying... or at least the computer generation coming through now seems to see through the BS Hype more often.
    6. Try a different strategy if you are getting so many customers and not coverting, For example: buy PLR rights to a weight loss product, signup for Aweber, and create an opt-in page, and offer everyone who signs-up x free product. Then when they are on your list, email them every week or two with a weightless product offer. Sometimes free, sometimes affiliate (paid), and sometimes just send them great info.

I would also go to audible and get a copy of "How to Win Friends & Influence People".

    Best of luck,

      Best of luck,
Links ARE working... Keyword(s) that are getting traffic there is very specific and niche related. Had/have aweber. Didn't do much only got about a 5 - 10% sign up rate. And I have read "How to win friends & influence people" many times.....

I do agree, People are getting very savvy and scam paranoid....

Thanks for the advice. Looking for more.

We Really need to see your site, but with that said here are a few recommendations:
Your keywords may be targeted and getting traffic, but is it buyer traffic/keywords and have you been tracking all your keywords to find the winners and drop the losers, also in some cases you can have to many keywords on a single page that can actually make it harder to rank well for some of your better keywords.
2nd Is your site built as more of a review site that compares several products or is it just promoting one? For better conversions you want more of a review style site, more of a content site(it also helps you get better search engine rankings)
3rd Are you doing everything possible to capture an email address to continue to contact your prospect with good helpful/free info. with maybe a little note every 3 times or so at the end such as(And if you want to know more about the 13 natural fat burning foods then check out ) your cloaked affiliate link. I recommend a slide in or pop up after the open the page with a good related free gift and another when the click to leave with another different free related video, etc.(do everything possible to get an email to follow up) 98 percent of the folks will leave your page to search for something that hits there hot button at that time, so stay in touch, be the helpful information source and continue with good info. and related offers.( build a list for your niche)

4th see/track how long the average person stays on your site and make sure your site graphics and all is loading quickly10 seconds or less. Try doing some split testing: make a copy of your index page and change the attention grabbing headline and use a free rotator script and track and test which is better, then maybe add a video at the top of one verses the other and see which is working better. Track And test.
5th you may try using spyfu to see what your competitors that are on page one are doing and using and try modeling some of there stuff and maybe improve on it(track everything)
good luck I hope some of this may help you!
    your friend in IM Dennis
