Hi

Just wondering if anyone can explain the difference between the two, I am currently building face fanpages for my clients, and when they people go to like the fanpage they get this message

Switch to regular connection (http)?
Sorry! We can't display this content while you're viewing Facebook over a secure connection (https).
Would you like to temporarily switch to a regular connection (http) to use this application?
You will have a secure connection upon your next login.

The users who see that message have opted into using the secure browsing function of facebook. If it is possible, you should make all your critical fanpages in https so that everyone can access them without seeing that message. Http users can see the https versions, but https users always get that message on http versions. Does that make sense?

I have one domain name and for each fanpage I put them under directory e.g myfanpage.com/client1 and my next fanpage is myfanpage.com/client2

does that mean I will have to get https for each fanpage or just one https for the domain name myfanpage.com + directories

You aren't going to be passing any vital information across the network to someone interacting with your fan page, just http it

Then people like me, and millions of others who browse Facebook using https, won't be able to see the fan page. I don't ever switch to http on FB, especially just to see a fan page. As time goes on, there will be more and more people like me, so you might as well get the SSL cert installed and make sure EVERYONE will be able to see your page when they get to it.

https: is used for transmitting private information via the Internet securely, information such as credit card, your personal details like your address etc…

You only need SSL for one domain, so you can host multiple fan pages, if its basic pages you provide for your clients, you could use your shared SSL hosting (if you are using shared hosting).

You can get more information on SSL in this article - SSL Hosting

    Hey Dave,

One SSL certificate is good for one domain, so the way you have it set up you should only need 1 of them, which is great for you!

Facebook announced a little while back that there were almost 10 million users using secure browsing. With that number likely to grow, it is better to go with https, especially if your clients target tech savvy people who are concerned with their security while online.

no I wont be passing any info across, but if I can get rid of the facebook message it would be handy for the visitors

    hey bking

sounds like good advice to me, one domain to pay for is a small cost for long term use, thanks, any idea on what the process is to get a https ssl certificate?

You need to get an SSL certificate but just get one and use that domain for all your fanpages. You don't want to just use http because as time goes on more and more people will start using the secure browsing - it's only a matter of time. You don't want to have to go back later and update everything do you? Just do it properly the first time.
