How should I get this off the ground?

Hi, I am starting a business/website where I will be teaching young people how to become entrepreneurs and make money from their own business. First, I will have an opt in page where I will drive all of my traffic, there they will be able to sign up for 3 or more free videos, maybe with extras too. Then, on the 4th email, I ask them if they want to join my membership. This is a special site where you pay $15 (maybe more) per month to be alerted of the new video on the site. However, you are able to share this with anyone! Even if they are not paying, I can send this page to a friend, they won't be able to access older videos, but they can view this one, and subscribe to get the next one.

My question is:
1. How can I get this thing off the ground and get the first initial opt in-ers?
2. Will affiliate marketing work at all?
3. What services should I use to power this?
Any other comments/tips?

Since the forum has its own official Hamster King - you should ask him
(joking... although we really have one!)

    1. traffic
    2. maybe
    3. it would depend on your budget, technical expertize, time frame...

Thank you, but how would I get my first traffic?

Thanks for the suggestions, I think I'll do what elrascal said, but I will also plan it out.

Thanks Peter, I'll be sure to try that out, Fiverr is great!

Well you're definitely going to need a membership site to administer the access. The one issue I see is that you want to share a current video. That might be a little tricky to setup properly.

For a membership site like this you're going to need something like Wishlist Member or Nanacast, etc...

You'll also want to really pay attention to the integration issues. For example, which autoresponder software are you using and does it integrate with your shopping cart? and your membership site software?

Really you have several pieces that must all talk together...

    1. Membership site
    2. Auto responder
    3. Web cart software or paypal

And many will say that "they integrate" with Aweber, for example. But you have to check the fine print. Most will just send an email to Aweber which will require your user to confirm regardless of whether you have double optin turned on or not with Aweber.

So you really need to look at the interactions between all of the pieces.

Otherwise you can end up with a very confusing user experience - has to optin, has to create an account on the membership, etc...

My suggestion is to create a flow chart of what you're trying to achieve from a user experience and then make sure you can achieve that via your selected software.

Ideally you would want to have the cart software, membership account and autoresponder optin all integrated into a one-step process for the user.

wish list is great but you can even go one step even simpler, if you are unsure what to do.

There are a lot of people who simply use a paypal subscription and use a auto responder to email the link to the new video each month.

The video is on a page on your website but with no internal links pointing to it... and not indexed by using robots.txt On this page you simply have an opt-in form and as people share the video you will get more people opting in.

Sure it's a bit crude but it is a simple model that works well.

hire some students on fiverr to hand out flyers with your proposal. i'm sure this will give good results and i saw, that many students offer that type of service. its only $5 so surely worth a try!
