CO-WORKING? An alternative to your own office and working from home!

Hey Warriors,

One thing that really caught my attention recently is a new concept called 'co-working'.. Where you can take your laptop and work in a 'shared working' environment with other freelancers, business start-ups, designers, writers, developers etc. I thought this was FANTASTIC! It's a great idea to get out of the house, build contacts, separate work from home and make new friends...

Here's a co-working space that's nearby, I'll be going there soon (I'm not affiliated with this biz at all, nor have I been there yet):

- Coworking Sydney - Shared and collaborative workspace in Sydney

And here's a HUGE directory of co-working spaces around the world for those of you who want to give it a go (again, not affiliated):

Coworking / Directory

Has anyone had experience with co-working before? This is an UNREAL idea in my opinion and it's only going to grow... I will let you know my experience soon when I attend a co-working space.

What do you think of this emerging trend?

I have worked out of a dedicated home office for 18 years. Sometimes, when I'm just writing, I take my notebook computer outside on the patio.

Do you have to pay to use the "Co-work" space? and If so, what benefits are there besides some people around and , hopefully, an Internet connection!

EDIT: wel I just clicked the link and saw the fees, sounds interesting!

I currently work out of the house, and when I need to get out, I visit a local fast food place to at least have the noise of a busy environment. I have seen articles recently about shared places for workers, but I could not justify the expense at this time to go to a location like that. (either that or it's just expensive in my area)

The more I look at the co-work space the more it reminds me of my University computer lab, when people were working it was very quiet and efficient. But as soon as people started chatting (which seems like the main goal here) it got out of control and was hard to get any work done. Let us know how it goes though!

A local community college has a business center that offers co-working for local startups. I think it's an interesting concept, but I feel like I might get too distracted personally.
