I am someone who loves to learn. I have promised to myself that I will keep learning till my last breath. So for me knowledge is something I can acquire. I will give 60% to idea and then 40% to knowledge if you want me to divide it between those two.

      How does the saying go?

90 percent perspiration and 10 percent inspiration? Or it may be 99 and 1?

      Something like that.

Ideas are nothing without action. Action is using knowledge to take the idea to fruition.

        Persistance plays a huge part.

You can have everything on your massive hard drive right on the tip of your brain, but if you aren't willing to fail (we call that 'testing' here) as many times and as fast as you can you may not make it out to the other side.

        The other side being paydirt.

You nailed it. They are both nothing without action. So, I am successful because I take action.

100% knowledge. If you didn't learn about different methods (even small ones), you may never get the idea that makes you the $$ in the first place. It's not one or the other. Without the knowledge that you could even make money online, you wouldn't be successful at IM.

I really don't think that the "desire to learn" is actually what counts, because many people say that. Of course, it plays a role too.

In my opinion, it's the right mind-set and a "natural" talent to spot opportunities, have visions and self-confidence and also an ability to make money "from nothing".

See the opportunities where other people only see blocks and barriers (aka "but how can i do this without money?".."this takes so much work"...etc.) .and then once you see an opportunity and are convinced that it will work there should be nothing which can bring you off the path --> MOTIVATION to succeed...regardless whether it takes 10, 100 or 1000 "fails" to get there.

No, what it is... is the ability to take swift action on opportunities you see. Always have that "IM radar" open and on full blast as you do not know where you will find the next profitable niche.

Without knowledge or skills, your idea may not even be sound. In addition, it normally takes some knowledge and skills to get a good idea off the ground. How many blank slates do you personally know who are successful?

I'm just gonna join the choir here and say that it is neither an idea nor knowledge that makes a warrior successful. It's action.

Of course, you do need SOME knowledge, but making money online is surprisingly simple once you start taking action towards your goals every day. Nowadays I like to keep learning/doing ratio to 20/80

Do you think that successful marketers are some super-smart beings? Well some of them are. But a lot are just common folks like you, and all they do is take focused action and move towards their goals.

As Jill and Shannon said above:

Effort is what makes a successful internet marketer.

There are plenty of successful marketers who have few or no "big ideas" of their own. They can glean other people's ideas from forums or blogs, or get an idea that's just a small change to somebody else's big idea.

Knowledge can be gained by nearly anyone, and comes naturally to those who put in the work.

But ideas and knowledge are totally worthless if all one does is sit around gaining more knowledge and coming up with more ideas. Both must be put into action.

Ideas are worthless on their own. Skilled execution of the idea is everything.

Apple didn't come up with the "tablet" idea. But the execution, wow.

        Both and neither.

Both, because you need an idea, even if it's just "copy what he does, but better." Once you have the idea, you must know what to do with it (or where to find out).

Neither, because either one without the other leads to an endless brain diddle, either dreaming or studying.

Combine "both" with committed, directed action, and now you have something...

    Knowledge and hard work.

You don't need ideas to even be a billionaire. At least that's what I read on Mark Cuban's blog, a he's a billionaire so...

Ya, it's not the idea. The person who 'owns' the idea isn't the person who came up with it. It's the person who took action and did something with it. People come up with ideas all the time. But probably only 1% of them do anything with them. Hence only 1% find success.

A good idea and having skills is great, but it is nothing without action, being willing to make mistakes and learn from them and being persistant.

But since the question is whether skills or the good idea is more important, I guess I'd say that skills are at least 90%.

You can find good ideas everywhere. As someone mentioned in one of the above posts, if you're looking for an idea, you can just copy somebody elses idea and add your own twist to improve it and add more value.

Skills however is something that can only be learned by testing stuff out and gaining experience.
