Does an Exact Search Equal To Number of Hits?

I am using the Google Keyword Tool.

I wanted to ask a question, if you were to rank No.1 for a keyword that has an exact search of 1200. Does that mean you will have 1200 extra uniques per month?

I know this tool is not accurate, but is this what it etelling us?

Thanks!

    Hey

Not exactly. It simply means, that the keyword phrase has 1200 searches for that exact phrase per month.

I'm not sure, but I think, that normally the number 1 search result gets around 40% of all the clicks from that search.

Hence, that is 480 unique hits extra per month?

Yes, as an average, from 1,200 searches, I think most people would agree that that figure would normally be "in the ball-park" for the top listing. (There can be factors that complicate it, but as an average, anyway).
