Collect Emails without Opt-in?

Hello Warriors,

I want to put an email optin box on my sales page, however I dont want them to have to go and confirm email etc as it might spoil the sales flow.

I simply want their email just incase they dont buy and I can sell to them later on.

Is this possible to do? can i have a box which just grabs their email and thats it?

Yes it's possible, although Aweber kind of frown on this now, you simply switch the confirmed optin off on your list settings with which ever AR company your with?

      Hi Rambo007,

      You can but I wouldn't.

The whole purpose of your sales page is to close the sale and if you also place an optin box on the same page then you will completely confuse the potential customer.

If you are going to try and capture their email details when they decide not to buy then you should use a pop up box that is activated as they go to leave.

Depending on your skills Robert Plank does a very good Pop Up called "Action Pop Up"

There are a few out there so have a hunt around.

      I hope this helps

    Hi Mate,

What you can do is have all traffic land on your salespage and
then have an exit popup when they leave.

I have found in my testing, this works better than having them
land on a squeeze page first.

Obviously, test your own sales process to see which one works
    for you best.

    Hope this helps.

But is that one of those annoyingly aggravating pop ups that won't let you leave....?

        No Way...

        I hate those too...

Its a Pop-Up...Not one of those alert boxes that trick you
into clicking the wrong button and getting stuck in a never
ending loop of "Are you sure you want to leave" messages.

People that use them are "D*ckheads"

Single Optin vs. Double Optin - is only a common misconception that you should use double optin, because 3rd party AR companies like AWeber, GetResponse and the like would want you to do, because it helps them keep their servers whitelisted easier.

My advice: use single optin, you will grow your lists with about 25-30% more subscribers than with double optin.

As for the collection process -
Either use a pop-up window before showing the page content (has very good results, statistically) but not well suited for a sales page though,
          OR
Use an exit pop-up that will try to add the escaping traffic only. It can be annoying only if YOU make it so (as in a never ending loop of exit pop, etc...)

          Hope this helps?

    Indeed.

Not only can it "spoil the sales flow" but you can actually lose a significant proportion of them, for this reason.

What you're asking about is called "single opt-in" in contrast to "confirmed opt-in".

Many of us think it's underrated.

I have 8 Aweber lists, of which 5 are single opt-in and 3 are confirmed opt-in. With hindsight, over two years later, I actually wish that I'd set them up a little differently so that 7 were single opt-in and only 1 confirmed opt-in. We live and learn.

    Yes.

(It has absolutely nothing to do with "pop-ups" at all. Either a single or a confirmed opt-in can be set up either with or without a pop-in. That issue simply has no bearing on your question at all.)

You wouldn't actually be "collecting emails without an opt-in" (that would be "harvesting" and would lead to problems); you'd be "collecting emails without a confirmation".
