Google analytics help needed...

Hi

I want to track if people coming from my facebook page are converting into opt ins on my site.

I know about setting up goals in analytics but can someone give me a list of things to do in the right order?

For example do i have to setup a tracking link with url builder everytime I create a link or can i get away with tracking overall visits from Facebook against converted goals from this traffic?

Thanks

    Magnetoguy,

In order to carry out this level of tracking in Google Analytics you will have to set up a facebook only squeezepage and don't index it for google (no index in the sitemap.xml)

That way you will know the exact amount of people coming from facebook.

Then just set up a goal in Google Analytics that has a STEP 1 url of the facebook squeeze page you have set up and an end target of the download page etc that Aweber redirects them to when the sign up.

If you are talking about a site that is not a squeeze page but rather a blog etc then this is definitely tricky. You could place a quick survey page in between them signing up and getting to their destination which asks them where they found your site from or you could add it to the opt in box.

I would be interested to see if anyone else has any ideas if your site is a blog.

    I hope this helped

      Thanks Tony for the tips.

Good idea to not put it in the sitemap. Thanks again.

I just stumbled on this site today (Getting the most of Google Analytics), and it seems it might be able to clear up a few things for you:

Using Google Analytics for More than Pageviews

Just scroll down to the bottom of the page and you get access to the videos, mp3 and pdf transcript. You can watch the videos online or download as one file, but it's quite big (over 700 Mb, I think - about 90 mins). You have to opt-in, to get access, though. I'm busy going throught the transcript, because I don't want to spend that much time watching the videos.
