What Types of Video are Effective?

A lot of gurus are singing the praises of video for use in all things IM. And though I'm aware that videos can be better than just text or static pics for explanations and tutorials and the like, it sounds like the gurus are saying we should absolutely do more with video. I just wanted to check in with fellow Warriors before wasting a bunch of time doing videos that won't move my site forward.

I have the capability to do pretty-much any kind of video from talking-head and action vids to screen-capture tutorials to Powerpoint presentations. If folks here were to give one piece of advice as to what type to do more of and where to put them, what would that be?

Should I go through every post (125+) on my (WP) site and on each, insert a Power Point video basically narrating the text of the article? I don't see how that adds much value.

Or should I shoot a quick screen capture video on every post where that might make sense (my posts are pretty much all about audio recording on PC, so lots of possibilities there)?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Ken

Video is hot because reading isn't. People want things immediately and video serves that purpose perfectly. I'd say you don't have to go through each post. I'd go with identifying items of interest using video when you want to stress a particular point. I don't think you need it for everything.

I'm not real fond of most video for several reasons. Many, if not most videos are terrible. They're not well planned and the presentations are very amateurish. That's a big turn off and will work against the creator.

The other side of the coin obviously, is doing it well. Taking the time to map out what you want to achieve and producing a quality video is the way to go. To me that means using a script (unless you're really good at working from a simple outline) and coming across like you actually know what you're talking about.

A good presentation of any kind starts with an introduction of what the message is about. From there in goes into the actual presentation of the main body of info and closes with a brief recap of what was taught. This format goes for human presentations as well as slide.

I also believe people should at least try and look interested in what they're saying and know what they're talking about. I often turn to YouTube when I need to know something technical and it usually takes four or five clicks before I find a presentation worth watching. One very annoying thing is to speed through a process with loud head-banging music playing in the background.

Video can be good. Well planned video can be great. The thing about video, like anything else these days is if you take your time and do it right you'll be light years in front of the pack. Good luck.

Travlinguy has given you some great advice... the one main point I would really stress is to make it compelling. In order to get the results you want from your videos, you have to go into them with a solid plan, then spend time executing each video perfectly - from the script, to the voiceover, to what appears on the screen.

If you're bored with what you're saying (ie: speaking with a monotonous, just simply talking into your web camera or reading Powerpoint slides verbatim), no one's going to bother watching the entire thing.

    Absolutely not!

You're right; that doesn't add any value. As soon as viewers see that you've done that, they're going to click away. Again, if it's not interesting, your video is a waste of everyone's time (yours for creating it, and your viewers for watching it)

You could, however, go through your posts and pull out key points and use a video to expand on them. Or, you could use video to make new posts - and have a blog where some of it is written traditionally and some of it is all video.

I use videos religiously for the following reasons:

    1) Most people are T.V watchers by habit and hate reading long chapters unless its a really riveting story.
    2) You can do powerful screen cam demos of products you recommend, or your want to sell, with real behind the scenes footage
    3) Top marketers like Ryan Deiss sell a ton of stuff just talking over a powerpoint presentation, why not just repeat what works? Saves having to stand infront of the camera and rehearse a script
    4) With video you can build trust more easily as peeps can actually see a real person behind a product or service.
    5) You can communicate in several different ways through video, some peeps respond better to words, pictures and diagrams, others respond best to body language, voice and sound. So you can cover all of those in one video with some nifty tricks.

But some times a well written sales letter is all you need. So if ya great at writing hypnotic copy, why not focus on that and make a powerpoint of you talking over a powerpoint presentation and repeat the text underneath it for peeps who prefer to just read.

    Just my two pennies worth

I would just start adding videos weekly or daily if you like. I wouldnt go back to every post and put a video just the posts that you feel are of the most value.

No, I that's not what they mean. You don't have to use video for everything. However, video added to an under performing sales page is almost guaranteed to boost conversions. the correct use of video will make you money!

Video is now even bossier! Lol

But seriously man, video is the way to go. Its the future of all sales messages. (well pretty much already is)

I dunno why you would record all your blog posts. Not sure what ya gettin' at?

But regardless, I really love doing a combination of screen cam and keynote. Its really easy to do and it just comes out so sexy every time!

I think the bigger question is to think 1st about what your audience it thinking/who they are/etc....for the product you are going to promote before thinking about what type of video to create.......so i guess it you are doing videos to promote a video creating course then they better be awesome looking videos...LOL

mainly for me, videos work great at being able to adresss the visitors concerns and relate right away so longer sticky time vs long sales letters......i mean Diet Solution and truth about abs are clickbbanks top product and are running massive paid campaigns on their own direct linking to their own basic sales videos and they must be converting with it to be still running it

I personally think the more fancy a video sales letter looks the more I feel like its going to be a sales pitch.....but that just me and i guess it depends on the product/service being sold

I absolutely believe in using video...... I've had positive feedback with mine. People saying it makes it more personal. It's a good thing to learn even if you don't plan on using them that much.... just another tool in your belt!
