Switching from PC to MAC, which IM tools?

It's a moment I've been scared of for a while, LOL, but my new Macbook Pro will be arriving on Monday afternoon, and I am not looking forward to the transition. Currently I am using a Lenovo Thinkpad with Windows 7 Business.

My files/documents/etc will be fine, But what about programs like Traffic Travis, Ultimate Niche Finder, Focus Booster, Camtasia, etc?

What programs are the best on MAC for Screen Recording (Like Camtasia), Niche Finding (Like Ultimate Niche Finder), Like Traffic Travis, Any focus tools like focus booster? What about Link assistant? Is there a mac version of Link assistant's software suite, or something similar? Internet Marketers, what are the best Internet Marketing applications I should have on my new Mac?

Thanks everyone for any input and advice!

Hey man... Macs are pretty awesome... once I switched I don't want to go back.. EXCEPT for a few things...

And the #1 thing is what you are talking about.

Unfortaunely, you are just out of luck for most of this stuff. There is no alternative, and you'll either have to have a PC to run them, or run it virtually using BootCamp or some other emulation software, which is just a hassle. (I hate it.)

In terms of your questions about specific software, I use "Screenflow" to record video, and it's awesome. Very similiar to Camtasia. However, camtasia also has a mac version so... yeah. lol.

As far as the other stuff... you are probably out of luck! Sorry! It sucks for us, I know, but I still wouldn't go back to PC.

    Whats up bro?

First off, CONGRATZ on making the switch. That is probably one of the most important decisions you have ever made. Apple will treat ya right baby! Plus everything you produce will just have a ZEST to it because of tools like iMovie and Keynote.

@Avery Berman already got ya covered on screen recording. I LOVE me some screenflow.

Most def get Keynote for slideshow presentations, its sexy.

    Market Samurai for Keyword Research

    Toast for video converting

    Fecth for FTP

iMovie for quick video editing, Adobe Premiere for advanced stuff

Beautiful part about online business is most stuff is web based these days. At least all the cool stuff anyways. I've made it a mission in my life to ERADICATE paper from my life.

I don't even pay bills unless they come to me digitally! HAH!

Haha I'm trying to stay as digital as possible as well. Paper is just annoying. Where the heck am I supposed to put it all?

I also recommend Keynote and Fetch. Both fabulous software.

Keep a PC laptop or desktop and a scanner for that, and get a copy of PaperPort Professional. Scans it all into PDFs with the push of a button. Easy to use, and it takes up a lot less space than file cabinets.

If you have to store a lot of loose documents, you may want to get a sheet-feed scanner. For most people, though, a Canoscan is enough. Not exactly perfect for high-res photos, but for basic office documents it's fine. Set it to 600 DPI and you're good to go.

I usually keep a beater in the depths of my habitat to run some ugly PCs software like Ping Machine and some other ninja SEO type software thing-a-ma-jigers...

Other that than, I would NEVER taint my Mac with Parallels or Bootcamp. That just opens up a world of hurt man... NOT COOL, lol

There aren't that many IM tools for the Mac besides the basic mac apps that any user would use.

Funny what the people above are saying about the Mac...

The reason why professionals get a Mac is to use the Creative Suite.

      The Creative Suite 5 includes:

      Adobe Photoshop

      Adobe Illustrator

      Adobe After Effects

      Adobe Flash

      Adobe Dreamweaver

and many other great tools for IM.

You should also buy Adobe Pro X for great looking PDF's.

Also Mac Rapidweaver is great, too.

Check out my sig to see some of the things that you can create using a Mac:

I agree with Steven on that.

I'm actually using my iMac because my PC is being repaired, and I honestly can't wait for my PC to be fixed Mac is not bad but i'm just too used to Windows.

Yea pickings are thin as far as IM tools for the Mac, but you can fire up windows for those special sessions. I stick with macs in great part for their relative immunity to internet viruses. Adobe Air apps, like market samuri will generally work on Macs.

Camtasia is not the same thing on the Mac, ScreenFlow is the cool high end tool for macs, can mix screens and live video with 3D screen slant effects.

All i have to say is that you can get camtasia for mac because i have a friend that is in the same field of work as me and he has camtasia for his mac book. For the other programs i am not sure because i have never purchased a mac and i am not considering it right now.

This was my dilema as well when I switched so I had to install Bootcamp. It allows dual boot or switching from OSX to Windows. But a lot of times I need to run both at the same time so I got VMWare. It will allow you to run Windows within OSX. There are a lot of tutorials on Youtube on this.

As for screen recording, the best one is Screenflow. I use it myself and it's a breeze to record and edit screencasts.

    Cheers!

I've been a Mac user for over 25 years, and wouldn't go back.

However, as you've identified, there are problems in some parts of IM if you're a Mac marketer. I've written a few posts on my blog about this, which may help somewhat.

Video applications have been covered elsewhere here, so I won't repeat these.

The biggest problem is product creators who supply systems which are PC only, mainly .exe files.

The Mac hates exe files with avengence.

When I find something interesting that I'm considering purchasing, if the vendor doesn't clearly state that it works on Mac (or doesn't), I contact them before buying. Saves a lot of refunding issues.

The obvious route would be to do what I've done. I run Windows 7 under Parallels Desktop. It can be a bit slow (so am I), but this way you have the convenience of both OS's running side by side. I recommend Parallels Desktop above the other alternatives.

If you don't want to fork out for a PC emulator, my article about exe files on a Mac may help. There is a piccy of an exe file open on my Mac, without a PC emulator.

Good luck, and let me know how you get on, or if you find some better solutions.

      Cheers

      Alan

Wow! Thanks everyone for all of the tips, I'm going to have to run through and click the thanks button on a few of your for the great advice. Yeah, I don't really WANT to run bootcamp, because then I feel that I will be torn between OSX and Windows, and I hate that feeling. I would rather stick to one, and since I've already made the decision to move to mac, I want to stick with it. It is correct, a lot of tools I use are web-based. Matthew, thanks a TON for the information you gave me on those software programs, that is going to help me a zillion.

I also have CS4 for Mac purchased from Amazon, so that will be a big help in making me feel right at home. Thanks everyone for all of the great advice, time to go through and give some thanks.

I built my own Mac (hackintosh) and it's a beast (SandyBridge i5@4.3ghz, 6GB). I run Parallels in Coherence mode with Windows 7 and PC apps just run like any other application.

I run all the tools I need and no problems whatsoever.

Dual booting with Bootcamp is the pits. You have to shut down the Mac side to get to Windows and vice-versa. You're better off with parallels.

I have an inexpensive PC for a lot of my IM tools, but when you work in Wordpress it doesn't matter which OS you use because it is browser based.

There are a few free tools for Mac that you might like. Smultron is a lightweight HTML editor that loads instantly and doesn't hog system resources. There's a version of Filezilla FTP for Mac, and another one called Cyberduck (also FTP).

Look on the Apple site for widgets too. There are some good productivity apps and html/css editors.
