I just set up a WP blog on Hostgator, and I am seeing a banner in my control panel that reads:

"Your Jetpack is almost ready – Connect to WordPress.com to enable all features"
What is "Jetpack", and should I even bother?

joe

PS: I set up one other blog on Hostgator a few weeks ago, and never got this banner...

If you don't want to use the features of "jetpack" plugin, just go into the admin panel of wordpress and uninstall or delete the plugin. Otherwise, just get the auth code from the Wordpress.com site by registering an account there.

Yeah ... I just delete the plugin to get rid of the annoying banner ad for it.

Hey, JetPack's a pretty cool Plugin, it combines eight different plugins into one, including WordPress.com Stats, After The Deadline, ShareDaddy, and others.

You should try it out before you delete it.

I especially like the stats part of it. It really allows for a nice easy way to see how your site's traffic is doing instead of having to visit google analytics but it is up to you.

I currently use WP SlimStat - Is the stats function of jetpack better?

Yeah, it gives you pretty much all the benefits of using wordpress.com but on your own blog. I just linked my blog with jetpack a few weeks ago. Hasn't hurt anything as far as i'm aware lol

Jetpack is really cool it is a really good plugin to have, you see jetpack have a few features that you will find very useful like; Gravatar Hovercards; this allows you to mouse over the pictures of those who comment on your blog and if they are "known" their Gravatar will pop up, providing that they have one. then you have two of my favorite options, WordPress.com Stats and Shortcode Embeds; these two are the ones that keep you on top of things! You see WP Stats gives you a birds eye view of all the movement on you blog for instance, which pages are being read how many visitors per article and where they are coming from "Google, Yahoo etc" this will come in very handy for you. Now Shortcode Embeds; this allows you to place videos safely on your blog, Youtube, flicker and all the rest that are out there also at the same time shortening the embed code as well, simple and easy it is something that i would recommend to anyone who owns a WP Blog site enjoy.

I love this tool, i recently just got the digi traffic multiplier which is a new software that snatches content from yahoo answers (legally) and combined with the jet pack im able to see from the stat section what keywords are being typed in to find my blog, what back link site they came from, what aff links they clicked etc... i check it every morning first thing.

The Jetpack for WP is pretty nice honestly. I set a new blog a couple weeks ago and thought i'd try it to see what it is and it has some pretty nice features I would check it out if you have the time to.
