Need Info - Amazon Disallow the Use of Trademark Words In Url?

I was discussing with amazon on how to promote any of their products as an affiliate and one of their policy is they do not allow the use of URLs that include any trademarked words.

What if i have the trademarked word in my domain url and only earn from adsense. I really prefer to have the name of a niche in my url before creating the domain.

Secondly, what are the consequences of doing this with adsense.

Thanks

I don't know about Adsense, but even if they would allow it, would you risk building your business on things you know can get you in trouble? I personally wouldn't.

Using a trademarked name in your domain, no matter how you're earning money, leaves you with the possibility of being sued by the trademark holder, or at the very least receiving a letter from their lawyers telling you to turn over the domain name to them.

agreed, look at all of the sites Apple took recently because of trademark violations in the domain. Not worth it...

You can use a trademarked term in your URL, but it can't be in the domain name.

    For example:

    sonyvaiolaptop.com = unacceptable
    mylaptopsite.com/sony-vaio-laptop = acceptable

how about using it in subdomain like
    sonyvaiolaptop.products.com
In this case can you just delete the subdomain and still keep your domain? Wouldn't like to get sued in any case.

Or better yet, how about using it in sonyvaio.laptop.com in case you happen to own laptop.com ? It will rank as well as sonyvaiolaptop.com

Hey I've made a substantial amount of money with Amazon and partly because I live in Seattle where their headquarters is I've been in contact with their team on several occasions.

The main thing you want to NEVER do is include any Amazon trademarked term in your domain name.

        i.e. Don't do bestamazondeals.com or kindlevssonyreader.com

        They close your account.

If you try to use some other companies name in your URL it's hit or miss. For example the company Blizzard (world of warcraft, starcraft etc) is known for not caring about people using their names in domains because they know it's the community supporting their games.

But other companies aren't so generous.

        Hope this helps

Anytime you use someone's trademark in your domain name to make money off
of it in any way possible
without their permission, expect trouble. Check online
to see how protective they are, if ever.

I'm with Chris on this one and while I never advise my students to register a domain with a trademark in it, it is my personal experience that the majority don't care if you do, and by the looks of how many domains are not available with trademarks in them because they are registered already it pretty much seems that the majority realize that people are using it to sell their products and not pretending to be them.

Of course they can at anytime ask you to stop but I don't believe any big company will sue a little guy (unless something more serious) other than to ask to remove the infringement and turn over the domain which is their ultimate goal.
