How would you monetize a site about pigs?

Hi

I have a dream of running a pigfarm when I'm rich, and to help me do and figure out how to generate keyword traffic I'm going to use the domain, as I know that pigs get a lot of search traffic, and it would be cool to try some niche marketing.

I know that I could use adsense, but does anyone have other ideas?

Write an ebook about pig farming tips, or how to start a pig farming business. Sell any physical products you can find that would relate to that business. I'm sure even that niche you can find some products to be an affiliate for, haha.

Extreme sub-niching is great. You have a small market, but it makes it that much EASIER to dominate it. You can be the pig farm authority. The Tony Robbins of pig farming!

    Good luck!

Actually there are programs to sell organic turkeys online - which do well during Thanksgiving of course, and you could do the same with the ham.

Or, you find pig products like keychains and that type of stuff.

Add a news letter to that pig farm site and you can advertise there with some regular items and get a feel for what people are really looking for.

I think the "how to start a pig farm" book could be a great idea, and capture the list with a report on "10 misconceptions of raising pigs"

        Actually...I was being serious.:p
Turkeys do well at Christmas on this side of the Pond.
I know selling Scottish Salmon and other speciality meats/foods online is big business.
Andrew says he wants to run a pig farm and folk that run pig farms sell the pig products.

        Cheers

There are plenty of farm-supply stores online, and I'm sure many of them have affiliate programs.

One that comes to mind is JeffersPet.com -- that's not the farm-supply store, but Jeffers does have a specialty store for cows/pigs/sheep. The stores are linked, so you should be able to find it through the JeffersPet side of the site. And I think they even have an affiliate program. You can sell everything a pig farmer needs, from wormers (like ivermectin) to mange treatments to troughs to heating lamps to fencing.

    Cheers,
    Becky

You could look into trading pork futures, you could generate some interest by talking about the Dan Akroyd and Eddie Murphy movie "Trading Places" they had a lot of fun with pork belly futures in it.

I recently started working with an opportunity where you can buy catfish fingerlings (young catfish) and sell them when the mature, and the opp does all the raising and selling, your part is pure investment, and an affiliate program.

Maybe you can find a similar program with young pigs.

lol ... this is a first. I've never heard anyone say that they wanted a smelly, old pig farm when they got rich. I'm intrigued.

What exactly are people looking for when they search for pigs?

Just ate some pork fajita! Maybe you could sell tasty recipes using porkmeat.

A lot of norwegian are googling every year on how to make their christmasribs (pig). There are probably similar keywords that get good traffic in your language as well.

I have owned 2 pet pigs and I can tell you for sure that the main pain and urgency for pet pig owners is training.

Many people buy pot bellied or micro pigs, because they're very cute when they're little.

They also have an extremely high EQ and are very warm and loving.

The problem is though, that as people become more and more attached to the pig emotionally it's instintive food finding habits become more and more of a problem.

They also have some very weird physical problems commonly, like things prolapsing, etc. that can really freak you out.

An ebook about "Pig Medical Problems & How to Solve Them" might have a market then?

And if all treatment fails...eat it (ok...insensitive I know to those who have become attached to their piggies...)

Write an eBook “weight loss for pigs” and promote it through pig site. All pigs (most of times sows) who’re visiting your website will buy the eBook. (This reply only 4 fun, nothing else)

I would think affiliate programs and some of your own products like how to ebooks.
I can see where you could build a pretty large site around pig farming and pig related keywords. Just target the ads to the pages and even work our link into your articles and stories. Heck I can even see a forum and gallery in your future. With some effort you could turn a site like that into the site on pig farming and as pets.
By the way, I've dreamed of having pigs for years. When I was a teenager I helped a friend raise and slaughter pigs every year.

An interesting topic no doubt. You can sell everything related to raising Pigs - Pig Feed, Supplements, Medicines, Pig Shelters, etc. etc.

I love searching new stuff and am willing to do a free report on keywords, products/affiliate networks in this Niche.

I don't think I still have the required number of posts to send PM's so you'll have to contact me through Twitter or Gmail. The ID is same as on this forum.

One thing that comes to mind is information (an ebook ?) on keeping a micro pig as a pet. I hope you do this as personally I think the micro pigs will will also benefit.

      Good luck.

Go to a forum for pig farmers, find out what the newbs are all asking about, or find out what the top 5 wants and needs of pig farmers are and then write a 15-20 page report showing them how to do some of those things better and/or cheaper. Turn it into a free membership with an upsell, etc.

Also, you might search out internet marketer, Laura Childs, who made a name for herself in IM early on and then turned that knowledge towards helping people in "country living", self-reliance type situations. She might have some tips for you.

Start with your end goal in mind and work backwards.

What is your intent with the pig farm? Are you going to sell pigs as pets? As food? As breeders for other people to start pig farms?

I mean, it doesn't make sense to sell "how to start a pig farm" products now, unless your end goal is selling pigs as breeders for other people to start their own pig farms. Otherwise, I'm not sure it makes sense to create more competition for yourself when you do get your pig farm going, because the people you will be selling to now will have years of hands-on experience under their belts before you get to getting into pig farming yourself.

Likewise, it's probably not a good idea to sell pork recipe books if you will eventually be selling pigs as pets.

So, tie into your end goal plans now, so that you will be building your brand and a customer base for your eventual pig farm product.
