I use Wordpress and joomla. generally speaking that calls for only a little knows of html.
They have many Sophisticated templates...

Just my thoughts:

Yes, you can start making money by creating these websites.

You can create websites & flip them for profit.
You can offer your services on Freelance websites.
You can look for offline clients who don't have an online presence & create websites for them.

But what is stopping you from creating more advanced websites? If possible, develop as many skills as you can which can help you make advanced websites as well & help you gain more customers.

Look into website flipping, build a site get some traffic to it then sell through a service.

You could also look into outsourcing, they need quality people to do the work other people need outsourced.

If you can afford to invest your time today and get paid later, we can work something out. If you want to get paid upfront or as soon as you hand over the website I can understand.
I recently asked my wife if she prefers to get paid €1000 today or €100 per month for the next 24 months for the work she did yesterday. She said she wants 1000 now. We then did a survey and asked 100 people on the street the same question. We are doing this for a web tv show that we are launching. We are asking all kind of financial questions. But to your question. I recently invested a lot of money to buy 250 one word generic domain names on various ccTLDs. money.ee cash.ee dollar.ee articles.li designers.ee websites.ee etc. I ended up investing all my money, so I can't buy a website design. If I did the design on my own - well, 250 websites would take me a year if could design one website per day. So I figured I would try to trade website design for a backlink(s). If you could throw up a simple site I would include your info in the footer. This site was designed by xxxxxxxx, want a similar website buy from this designer. I have some sites that are PR2, but I think PR doesn't matter that much any more. I use opensiteexplorer.org to analyse websites.
Eg. kids.ee has Page Authority 30, Domain Authority 27, 9 root and 441 links. This domain was abandoned, so I picked it up with all the free backlinks.
I can create simple sites like books.cat myself, but the better design the better chances to sell your design to someone else. Depending on your rates I might buy your services if you are not interested in trade.

There are many ways to make money online through affliate marketing.

-start a blog with affiliate links attached
-gain a twitter following and marketed "pay per lead" promotions
-marketed affliate products on facebook
-Start a squeeze page and optin form that sells products
-Write articles that direct to a affiliate link
-market an ebook with affliate links in it
-Once you get big you can form JV parnters to help with profits
-and my all time favorite is iPAS. thats the one I use to generate 10,000 a month at least. I do all the others also but the iPAS system is my main system.

Depends on what you mean by simple and nice looking. My idea of nice looking may be far different from your idea of nice looking. Startup websites are a dime a dozen. You need to create something of value in these websites other than just build any old random website.

If for instance, you can drive traffic to them or get them to earn Adsense or other income, that's something of value. If you create a Facebook fan page and/or Twitter page with tons of followers, that's something of value. If you build a list from the website and the list comes along with the website, that's something of value.

In my opinion i think when creating a site wordpres is the best because it is super easy to learn and navigate and also its the best.
