Curious case of Youtube terminating accounts.

Has anyone every recovered a terminated youtube account? (when it's not relating to copyright infringement). I've been doing some research but haven't turned up much.

This definitely a wake up call.

Here's the quick story...

Recently I received notification that a video of mine was "violating YTs community guidelines." I was surprised to have received it since I honestly felt my videos follow YT guidelines and I pride myself in putting out great quality content that my followers and the YT community loves.

Strangely, I had also received a similar notice around 6 months ago but when I tried to follow it up I never heard back why it was infringing... they just took down the video and I didn't give it another thought.

Anyway, following my recent message I also noted my account as been "terminated"... I didn't receive any notification on this and there was no explanation.

Why I find this curious is that...

My YT channel had over 350 high quality, high value videos with over 150,000 views. Most of the clips were extracted from some workshops we run here in Melbourne with tips on how to build a successful online business.

I had some awesome feedback and comments so I know the content was very much liked.

What would you do? Have you ever heard anyone getting their account reactivated?

I've requested an explanation from the youtube website, emailed them back using the email they contacted me on, and I've submitted a post on the YT support forums. Also tried to see if anyone I know, knows someone from YT Australia...

Will be interesting to see what I can dig up.

The real takeaway is to see YT for what it is... a source of traffic that's built on someone else's platform. Don't build a business based on a third party platform

Ps. We've gotta something quickly since #1 Melbourne SEO Services Company uses the videos pretty heavily and it looks bad when you click play and says the videos can't be played cause the account has been banned

I do not have first hand knowledge, not using youtube myself but all the stories that I have similar to yours did not end well. Basically you can expect no response at all or canned ones that do not answer your questions or solve your problem.

I assume you have copies of the vids so short term I would get them on one of the other vid sites real quick and change your links. Long term I would either self host or use a service like amazon S3.

    Hi Dave

Nice site. Why not redo a couple of the videos such as the one on the index page and hide or delete the code for other videos until you resolve situation or create new ones

    Good Luck.

You said it best. I'd say gather all your videos and put them all up on your own site. Google does not reply to emails (at least mine).

I have had replies back from Google though. Not YouTube (as mentioned, never been banned).

@Alfredocoach didn't get any communication from them other that a video had been flagged as not following community guidelines. Then the account was banned and no reference was made to the account being banned

@JustVisiting & @Bukriv & @ARVolund yup think that's what we'll have to do. Just a lot of mucking around but think that's the best solution moving forward.

        Thanks for the feedback guys.

Hoping to find someone with experience resurrecting an account but I don't like my chances from all reports

Sorry to hear about that. I've never been in that situation but in that email did they provide some sort of reason why you were banned or contact details perhaps?

Sorry for your loss, but glad I am in good company.

My account was terminated on Sunday also, 80+ videos, 1.5 million+ views, etc.

    Here is the whole story:
    R.I.P YouTube?

Personally, I think those messages amount to defamation of character - am I over reacting?

Keeping in mind, though, the power of YouTube and being turned away, is a bad thing.

    Best,

Youtube is really hitting pretty hard on mass uploaders.

I for one did not see it coming.

My competition seems to have had a lot of videos disappear too, really strange, don't think they were doing anything blackhat as far as I am concerned.

      this is not all bad.

One of Google and You tube objectives are to provide it's users with a good search experience.

unfortunately - like most corporate decisions - rules trying to implement this objective are going to effect good content as well.

Yea, that thread covers it all, it just takes a few days to read through it -lol.
A few key points are YT is shutting down videos that relate to "Making Money Online" and how to "Beat Google with SEO".

I was going to say, just upload the videos (I am sure you have the original files) to your own server or S3, problem solved, but it looks like they are working again on Youtube.

Looks like you'd better plan a trip to Mountain View cause I have NEVER heard of Google getting back to anyone, ever, unless they have lots of money and willing to make deals with Google.

Anyone ever seen a phone number for Google? And if you did, and you called it, who do you think would answer?

Yep they just hit thousands of accounts. Seems like theyre targeting video uploaders of the spammy nature, make money type videos/hack google rank faster etc...
