Improving amazon conversion rate

Hi All,

I would be interested in your thoughts on improving amazon conversion rates, I'm using a shopping cart system at the moment and things are going very well and i 'am now looking into squeezing as many conversions as possible. Do you guys think splashing mysite.com and Amazon working together logos over the checkout pages would help improve conversions? How have you improved your click through's?

Your thoughts would be most appreciated

Mr Pond

Have you tried using review videos to boost conversions?

Dont use Amazon. It really baffels me that people still try to promote stuff through Amazon when you can go to sites like clickbank, ejunkie, shareasale, and commission junction. You get cents for selling stuff through Amazon when you can sell other stuff for up to 75% commission instead of 3-5%.

Look elsewhere if you want to really make money online. Amazon is a joke.

Just your opinion of which you are entitled but there are many of us out there making very good money with Amazon, its all about knowing what your doing.

Of course your advice is also correct but I like Amazon, its easy money once your sites are set up and optimized.

Sorry, but the joke is on you buddy There's a ton of factors to consider beside the commission %. The trust and heavily optimized checkout process Amazon uses make for extremely high conversion rates. It's like selling candy to a baby sometimes.

Besides, 6% commission on a $500 item is $30, which is similar to the payout on a Clickbank e-book. And no, it's not really harder to sell expensive items like that either. It's all about giving the visitor what they're already thinking about buying.

          This was a great response.

Amazon and Clickbank are like apples and oranges

Commission is higher on clickbank, but Amazon is a conversion champ.

Once you start selling a significant amount of items, you can boost your conversion rate up to 8.5% (hard to get to 8.5%, but 8% is well within reach)

Plus, the refund rate for clickbank products is way higher than amazon. And on top of all that, the amazon upsells can be absolutely insane sometimes. You can regularly get commissions on products that you don't promote whatsoever.

This is certainly true. I've just scratched the surface with Amazon but I sold one item worth $2600.00 and picked up a nice $104.00 commission with it so yes you can make good money with Amazon.

Amazon converts very easily and once people are on their website, even if they don't buy the product you are promoting, they very often browse around and buy something completely different. I don't promote tvs, computers, stereos, etc., yet I have sold them all and reaped the commissions.

I also promote ClickBank products, but my Amazon conversions are way higher, because, I believe, of the trust factor. Everyone knows and trusts Amazon.

At the highest level, I may only aspire to an 8.5% commission rate with Amazon, but when I'm converting at around 22%, that's probably better than 50 - 75% at a ClickBank conversion rate of 2 - 5%.

BTW, I've never yet reached those heady heights with Amazon - 7.5% is my usual level, but it's there, on the table for me to work towards

Like the idea, and I haven't got a clue why I haven't implemented it yet! Maybe when I'm thinking about improving conversion rate I miss the obvious sometimes! I've got a conversion rate of 4.73% this month so far, so would be interested to see how this improves.

By using more aggressive marketing methods, I have been able to increase conversions to over 27% on average over several dozen competitive niches. For example, writing articles for niche ezine publishers, context-relevant websites and blogs, and offline outlets such as magazines, trade journals, newspapers, and direct mail can drive highly targeted and convertable traffic to your sales conversion funnel. In addition I may use telemarketing/mobile marketing and offline media buying as part of the marketing mix. By combining these methods together in synergistic marketing campaigns these work together effectively in any highly competitive market, in particular for selling high end products ($10,000+). There certainly is a lot of money to be made as an Amazon affiliate.

I have built an Amazon review site and I am now at the stage where I need to promote it. Having read your post in detail, I would like to know if you have an ebook that combines all your methods?

    Thats a strange comment ?
There are people here on WF doing 4 figures per month on Amazon with 5 to 10 page review sites.
Perfectly possible to get 6 to 7% commission by the way.

    1) Trust factor
    2) Amazon's superb upsell system ....... makes up for the low commission. The trick is to get in front of the 'about to buy' crowd and send them quickly to Amazon from your site.

I love the way every thread that starts with a question about Amazon ends up with the "Amazon commissions are so low you're crazy to be in that space" debate!

Back to the actual question. Things I have found that increase conversions are:

      1. Write decent reviews setting out the pros and cons of the product and guiding the reader to the decision to buy. They want answers, that's why they're on your site and haven't gone direct to Amazon.

      2. Show them that you're a human being, include a photo and an About page.

      3. Use videos to demonstrate what the product can do since they can't pick it up and look themselves (youtube vids are fine as long as they're not from another marketer who includes his CTA in the video!)

      4. Include strong call to actions - ie click here to get the best price on XXX today with free shipping.
