Keep Aweber OR go with a cheaper alternative??

Guys,

I am a newbie and not making any money yet online. As you know, Aweber is around 20 bucks a month. I have about three lists with a total of not more then 36 people in my lists.

Are there cheaper alternatives to aweber? Should I stick with it or should I go with a cheaper or a free alternative until I start making some money?

With domain hosting, registering names, it doesn't get any cheaper.

Guys what do you think?

...........and thanks.

i used getresponse which is little cheaper but most people like aweber for ease of use. usually getresponse or aweber are most popular.....if you arent really focused on building a list(i mean you dont have an autoresponder sequence/promoting to the list) then its probably not worth keeping it ? mail chimp is popular because its free for 1st couple thousand but they DONT LIKE AFFILIATE MARKETERS so they have been known to shut down accounts.

No you cant import lists .
I would stick with Aweber if you already have established lists because if you move your AR then your list will have to subscribe again and being a small list unless you are really feeding them some good valuable information they might not resign.
have a look at trying to monetise your list even if you can earn the $20 month then thats the AR payed for

If you really can't afford it, I would say hit up GetResponse, I believe your first 250 or 500 subscribers are free and then its like $10 a month after that and obviously scales as you grow your list.

Thats what I used when I first got started but now I have Aweber account too because they are pretty much the industry standard. Right now I have my main IM list in GR (get response) and Aweber for any weird niches I'm in with niche sites and what not.

Eventually I will probably fully ingrate with Aweber at some point.

So yeah, change if ya cant afford it but you really shouldnt if you already have some leads, even if its just 36...

No offense dude, but I wouldn't go wit it unless it was Aweber, GetResponse or iContact (for preloading leads)

That's just my opinion, maybe its a great up & comer?

I have been using them for over 6 months, they allow you to import your leads... I actually switched from Aweber for the same reason...

I now pay the same amount for 20K leads as I did at Aweber for 500 leads...

Plus this company is owned by a Warrior and an IMer and is geared towards IM...

      That's your opinion...

I have used all the three you listed, but ended up at Imnica...

      But what do I know...

Maybe you should try others before placing judgement or saying which is better?

If you are a large corporation then you sure can't beat Aweber...

However, if you are an Internet Marketer Aweber is extremely strict and leaves much to be desired... Why pay an arm and a leg and still be faced with all the ridiculous rules they enforce (like the 2 lines from last text to your unsub link, how many people got an email threatening to get banned for violating this?)

Currently you could pay for up to 5k contacts at Imnica for 9 bux a month... or wait until the price increase on the 20th when they will also be releasing a free option up to 1,000 subs.

      Good Luck

Get more people on your lists. Your not maximising that $20/month properly if you can add 464 more optins

My opinion is, if you only have a list of just 36 people and not going to monetise enough to cover for the expenses at all. Don't go for Aweber first.

My disclaimer is I am an Aweber user and is sure of the quality. But based on your scenario, I reckon going with iContact might be the best way since it's free for your 1st 500 subscribers, while all the rest of the more established ARs requires monthly payment.

I would suggest try to go for free ARs, coz it can get really troublesome if you want to do a transfer next time. And you never know about how reliable free ones are - no disrespect intended.

    Cheers,
    Lester

Got to disagree with most people here...

I have a list with Aweber, but I must agree that GetResponse looks better and better and I'm seriously considering moving.

As to OP question.. You can take a look at others, perhaps find a cheaper route, but always do your research, because this is business and you want your list to be with a secure company that doesn't delete accounts, have their delivery rates up and so on.

Getresponse is a good alternative to Aweber although not really that much cheaper...

Lots of folks are recommending Aweber, but if you ever plan on growing your list past 2500 then look to pay upwards of $50 a month...

I have a friend who is leaving Aweber because it is costing him over a $1100 a month (he has a 70K list) his cost at Imnica - $115...

So - Long term which makes sense?

First thing people always say is that Aweber has the best deliverability rates, this is not always the case though...

Any major a/r worth mentioning is now on par or very close to that of Aweber...

I get Aweber emails in my spam folder just like any other a/r...

Many forget to mention how many times Aweber has been hacked and all the emails stolen (at least twice that I know of)...

They also forget to mention how Aweber has random problems with bounces and many have had over 500 bounces in a day (and thus those subs are removed from your list automatically)...

Also, recently Aweber lost all it's tracking functions for about 3 days...

I don't use Aweber anymore but I have several friends that do...

Aweber was once the only one worth using, but they are quickly losing their market share and those in it for the "long run" are leaving Aweber and moving to places with less politics and better pricing...

Just something to think about from someone "in it for the long run"...

I'm a firm believer in Imnica

Moving your lists From Aweber to Imnica is as easy as making a support ticket and uploading a .csv file, thats it...

You choose rather or not they have to confirm their email and rather or not they start receiving a/r messages...

          Hope this helps

I second the Imnica Mail recommendation. It's a great service, great support, has great deliverability, and it's VERY CHEAP!!

Also it's owned by a reputable warrior, they have also a 1$ trial...so why not giving a try ??

I am sure you'll be happy with them.
    {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[4058794].message }}

For the service provided, AWeber's pricing structure is actually very reasonable. At $19/month (or whatever the lowest-cost plan is after the free trial), you have to question - as another member here often says - whether you really have a business if you're unable to cover that within a couple of months.

And starting out with a free/cheaper provider, with the intention of moving your list later, is easier said than done. Even if you're allowed to do this by the new provider, your subscribers will typically be forced to reaffirm their consent at being on your lists, for several reasons. And many just won't bother doing this, meaning you're going to lose a good proportion of them.

You really have to question those services that are really cheap. It's usually for a reason - specifically, perhaps, that little-to-no time is spent by the provider negotiating their way onto spam whitelists and taking the other necessary steps to provide good email deliverability rates ... which is obviously paramount when this sort of service is concerned.

If you can afford it, stick with AWeber (or at least one of the big three/four). If necessary, hone your strategy and/or invest more time into your business to quickly raise it to the point that your outgoings are covered. Don't skimp for the sake of it - you'll almost certainly regret that further down the road.

EDIT: Oh, and if you do switch to another provider, go through their service policies with a fine-tooth comb - some place heavy restrictions on what they can be used for, and they'll have absolutely no qualms about nuking your account, without any sort of warning or recourse, upon discovering that you're breaking their rules ... however "innocently" done.

Aweber is the best. I would suggest you to concentrate on building your list over the next month or so. In the WSO section you will find some good list building guides for free. If you are unable to improve your list and earn from it despite your best efforts then think about changing.

Hey man, you should check out mailchimp.com - it seems like it could work for you.

It's free to sign-up for a basic account.

There is a limit to the amount of emails you can send per month (up to 12,000), but considering your list isn't too big at the moment it should be fine.

Also worth noting: Mailchimp do insert a - really quite small logo - at the very bottom of your emails. If you're content is good though, most people won't even notice it.

    Check them out.

Whatever you do please avoid mail chimp... They hate IMers and their TOS prohibit Affiliate marketing... I used MC for awhile (just for my buyers list) and they shut my account down after simply sending an email to my buyers mentioning I paid 100% commission on my products...

Also, lots of people are saying if you swap a/r companies you have to make your subscribers re-confirm...

This is plainly not true, not all companies require this... Aweber does, they are one of the strictest when it comes to list imports...

Imnica gives YOU the option as to rather or not the imports have to confirm AND rather or not they trigger the a/r sequence...

Also their deliverability is on par with that of Aweber... and anyone who says they've never gotten an Aweber email in their spam folder might be telling a fib (or maybe they aren't looking to see what a/r's hit their spam box like I do)...

True, they're not that into affiliate emails (probably because a bunch of people used their system for spamming affiliate offers) but I wouldn't say they 'hate' all IMers, in fact I'm pretty sure IMers are some of their biggest clients - but read their terms and conditions and play by the rules. You should have absolutely no problem.

Honestly, I'd stick with Aweber - I've used a few in my day (1ShoppingCart's email deliverability STINKS)... but none is as consistent, reliable, and feature-rich like Aweber.

Instead of going cheap on an email autoresponder, figure out a way to monetize your emails ASAP - it shouldn't be hard to generate a few bucks from each email you send.

    ...........and thanks.
Hi again Alex, I can understand and relate totally, which is why I set up a site dedicated to finding cheaper and free ways to start online.

With one of my older blogs (now defunct), I got a lot of messages from people who were simply strapped for cash. Hence my decision to search out the lower cost alternatives.

I am currently switching all my autoresponders from Mailchimp to Listwire. I ran an experimental mailing list with LW, just to check it all works, and it's just fine. You're probably aware that Listwire is Totally Free Forever. That can represent quite a saving over time, especially when you haven't made any money yet.

    Can't transfer your list?

    Here's what you do.

    1. Find a really sexy PLR item., such as a video training course or similar to use as a nice freebie incentive.

    2. Use your last mailshot from your old autoresponder.
Send a message explaining truthfully that you're changing your mailing list management system, and you'd like to keep in contact with your loyal customers. Then ask them on click the link to stay on your mailing list.
To this end you can offer the sexy PLR item as an incentive for them to re-sign to your new AR. Make sure that they're aware that ONLY these special people are getting the unique offer. It will not be made available anywhere else.

    3. Set up your new AR optin from this link. Don't try to send to any other affiliate links etc., just use the PLR to get them on board. Send them to the special squeeze page or optin form, which is not publicly visible.

    4. (Optional). Add a surprise bonus item to the download page as a way of saying thanks.

    You Will Lose Some

You will lose people who only wanted the original freebie, and will probably never buy from you.
You will lose people who never open your emails ever anyway.

Out of your 36 prospects, I would expect you to retain about 20 if you go about this as I suggest. But they're 20 people who are reading your messages!

I'm sure somebody will refute this, but it does work., and it 'cleans' your list the same time.

    Cheers
