I'm sorry to hear that.

'Dodgy', so what? That's not against their terms of service or their community guidelines.

Definition: (90% of what's on YouTube) = Frivolous

And I think that's being generous (my opinion)

So what's wrong with 'Dodgy'?

That's exactly what happened to my adwords account. Got permanently suspended with no prior warning, no explanation of what was wrong with my ad...just POOF! you're gone. It was my first adword ad, too.

I have no problem with them cleaning up the joint, but I do have a problem of doing so without any explanation or giving a chance for the user to correct the problem.

I had been hearing horror stories like this going on, one lady (I think she's in the WF too) lost like 300+ videos or something. It's making me kinda second-guess on entering into YouTube marketing... O_o

I'm just wondering what their guidelines are as to what they're cleaning up and why...

Like most big online companies they hate the Internet Marketing industry.
The IM industry is looked as being a cancer, everyone wants to avoid.

Wow, this week is sure becoming the week to remember in IM for 2011. Amazon kicks out all Californian affiliates, YouTube closes untold accounts ( I knew this was coming as there has been just so much on offer lately in the way of video spamming software ), and I am sure there was one other biggy.... if I remember I'll be back and update my post.

lol. I use to sell advertising. I had to sell mediums to peeps that had no friggin need for it....yet somehow I figured out a way a female dominated spa would benefit from a space ad in Mens Fishing Journal...et al.

My question is rather simple.....what are you basing your facts on?

Because if I'm YouTube looking for big corporate accounts the first lie I tell them is that 75% of the people actually want to search for the big game.....but would rather watch their Subaru car commercial....lmao.

Come one man......does anyone really believe that.

If you search on You Tube for a specific topic like how to make soap...and are subjected to a a 30 second spot on some car commercial....trust me...I'm not engaged, amused....or anything other then pissed off......and just CUZ GOOGLE SAYS IT'S TRUE .....DON'T MAKE IT SO.

And ask the Warriors. If you are searching for a specific topic on this or that.....you're telling me that 7.5 out of 10 of you are actually looking forward to jerking around watching some unrelated 30 second commercial ???

Why do I think this sounds like a "sales pitch" from Google to me....because they are having difficulty getting these big players on board.

Maybe it's just Vinnie.....but when I go to search for something I want to find it......I don't want to listen to why the new Rolls Royce might get me laid if I drop 100K down......sorry......it makes NO sense.

I don't bite on what google says.....I bite on what they do.

peace, Vegas Vince

Lost quite a few accounts and there also a bit of my income stream. All promoting different kind of Gaming-CPA Offers, some were only getting some traffic to my blogs.

Sucks.

Two (or three) biggies actually -

Kindle and PayPal, (plus continued SERPs tightening).

I've been chewing over these things and trying to see into the future over the weekend.

You may eventually, like me, see that these changes are of the type that at first seem negative, but once considered can be viewed as something necessary and very positive that actually provide a host of new opportunities to those that 'swim with the tide' of change.

Many big changes in marketplaces prove (historically) to be of a similar ilk. They focus the mind and force the hand while culling those who are unprepared, inflexible, unwilling to change and stuck in their ways.

Information overload has just been reduced for many newbies who were toying with crappy spam producing systems. For those who were innocent and got caught up in the cull, they will have the benefit of not being complacent in future and not trusting large entities with key parts of their business. Independence has just become the latest trend - huzzah!

The barrier of entry (the bar) has just been raised. Does this hinder or help you? If it's the former, now is the time to readjust quickly so that it turns into the latter.

There's not much that's more satisfying than turning a negative into a positive.

It's a bit like the current world events in the financial area. The uncertainty and risk either eats us up and destroys us (if we let it), or it forces us to make big adjustments that could look very wise from a retrospective viewpoint in the future.

We may end up applauding the 'financial crisis' for alerting us to stuff that was previously going on behind the scenes and quietly hindering us. Instead we are encouraged to anticipate similar future issues and make different future plans to avoid them which could turn out to be beneficial in many unexpected ways - plans that may never have been made otherwise. Some of us plankton have just been awakened to the true nature of the bigger fish out there, which cannot be a bad thing.

Likewise, the 'internet clean-up crisis'.

It's harsh to suddenly lose an income stream, but as long as the lessons are learned and applied, it's a valuable lesson for the future. Thanks for the tough love, Google and chums, I am now much more prepared, alert, agile and Google-proof.

Youtube is not only cleaning up by suspending accounts or deleting videos. They are also editing videos !

One of the tricks used by IMers to get their URL in front of viewers is to have a last frame with their URL/call to action running on for 10 or 20 seconds or even longer. This does not work anymore. Youtube cuts these long frames down to a couple of seconds at the most in the rendering process when you upload your video.

I checked to see whether adding sound to the last frame would make any difference. It doesn't.

Conclusion: you actually have to be creative and do some proper video creation/production if you want to get this information in front of eyes. Of course, this can only improve the quality of videos on Youtube, but it will also take a little bit linger to get a video out.

Personally, I don't mind not seeing spammy vidz on Youtube. And don't get me going on auto-generated video articles, PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

I appreciate the info on the editing, I wasn't aware of that.

I do disagree that YouTube is cleaning up anything, though.

Banning people for life who have NOT violated ANY PUBLISHED terms of service or community guidelines is, well, 'dodgy' behavior - to use a term from our British friend above.

Personally I have other terms for it but they aren't appropriate on a family rated site.

Let's just say that, at best, they are throwing the baby out with the bath water and making NO provision for reclaiming any of the tossed kiddies.

Best,
Roger

Which seems to be about 80% of what is posted on YouTube!!!

Now if they would only get rid of the videos with the crappy audio or those videos with heavy metal music.

I'm glad Google's making bank and doesn't have to worry about such trivial things like where the money will come from for their bills.

God forbid someone use a keyword like "make money online" to promote a video that truly helps someone with a tip on getting some money coming in. Yet they glorify videos that show teenage girls beating the **** out of each other.
Thanks Tiffany. I had my account "Terminated" by Google YouTube 3 weeks ago. I'm NOT looking for any sympathy, I've started again with a site called Viddler..

Am I a Spammer. NO, do I make Cr*p Videos - NO. I offer video tutorials on how to make money from Internet Marketing, Social Media etc..

I lost 91 videos, it took two weeks after my account was closed for YouTube to tell me what my CRIME was.. YES... I put the words "Make Money Fast" in the video title of one of my videos..

NOW, any other organisation would perhaps have sent a "Warning", so you can ACT and continue, but NO - not YouTube.. TERMINATION...

Now, I know it's FREE to use, but is this FAIR.. after all, re-embedding all of your videos from scratch again, all of the lost comments, hits etc.. when all YouTube had to do was REMOVE the offending video and issue you with a warning, surely this would have been more LOGICAL..

After all, YouTube still has tons of Money Making Videos, some of which are total CR*P, it also has videos about people VOMITTING, getting DRUNK etc..

SO, when did "Making Money" become such a SIN ?

Well that does suck.

Perhaps the new chief decision maker for youtube bought something from clickbank in the make money niche, you know the super push button software crap ie auto blog makers and thought enough was enough lol.

Have you had any response as to whether you will get your videos back?

Google can and will do what they want but in a age of social media, Google's pattern of behavior will leave a sour taste in the mouth.

I have seen it with Adwords, Adsense and now Youtube. When you start to ignore the customer, you open the way for competitors to rise and chalenge you.

If you could talk to a real person, you might ask them to point out just how that violates any of their PUBLISHED policies.

If they really don't want certain topics of videos, I wonder if it ever dawned on them to MENTION that somewhere?

Roger.

What the really should be focusing their time on is deleting all of the crap accounts that are closed or have no video content. There are literally tens of thousands of these accounts that remain in the friend lists of all other accounts and clog up the system. When you click on them there's nothing there - so why still show up as a friend? Delete it.

Youtube decision is pure economics, they are going after anyone who is "Actually" making any profit or building any business with youtube, they are looking at the many successful small businesses who have learned to utilize youtube as a Free marking tool, and this is what they don't like.

Youtube loves the stupid videos, even the ones with young kids beating the crap out of each other, or learning how to do drugs and make weapons, those are the videos they should be focused on, but then again those videos don't make money.

My biggest problem with the whole mess on Google/Youtube is that if they would just lay out the rules in a well written TOS and then enforce them equally, I'd be happy and not have any problems. Some of my best videos get banned, while some of my crappy, copied, spammer videos stay up forever! And NEVER do they ever tell you what part of the TOS you supposedly have violated. OK, that's my rant. Back to work.....

I agree in theory but you can have rules against everything you can imagine and then some guy will come along with some new way to jack the system that wasn't explicitly forbidden so technically he'd be in the clear. I think that is why they are sort of ambiguous about a lot of what they do.

I guess Google is just trying to take action towards its aim, which is to provide useful content to the "searchers".

There has been too much spam content on the net, so there is a real need to remove tonnes of them, but we should forgive Google because in the event of weeding out the spam, some of the legitimate videos might also be deleted.

It is all done in the good faith of the "searcher". Good news as mentioned by warriors is that we now have a lower level of competition.

So how can we continue to use Google while surviving all their updates? I think the best way is to align our goals to Google, which is to provide useful content as quickly as possible, and avoid spam.

Good luck to all warriors!

Hey don't let this thread stop you from marketing with Youtube. Just do it you have nothing to lose. The experience will be worth it. If you are smart you will have your videos saved somewhere else anyway.
Cheers Bruce.

I agree. If you decide NOT to use YouTube on the chance that you could lose your account, then you will be missing out on a huge opportunity and that would be really dumb!

You "drop a comment" that bumps a thread from last year (6/11) and then you proceed to argue it? Really?
