Domain Mapping in Wordpress vs. Single Installs

I have a network of sites that I'd like to convert to Wordpress. I know that domain mapping would be the way to go in order to make updating and installing plugins easier, but I might want to sell one or more of the sites one day.

Are there any potential problems with peeling off a domain-mapped site and then installing it as a single install?

I'm wondering how data gets stored in the database. The actual URL would look something like this: site1.mainsite.com. So when I transfer it to site1.com as a single install, would I run into any problems?

Thanks.

Hi Trivium - I considered this myself as I manage my own network of single install WordPress blogs. After reading the article below I reconsidered:

Migrating Multiple Blogs into WordPress 3.0 Multisite « WordPress Codex

I reckon that some of my blogs are too heavily customised to work under WP MU.

    YMMV

Seamus - Thanks for the reply. But that page seems to be talking about doing the opposite of what I want to do (eventually).

While I am looking to merge various sites into one multiblog site at the beginning, I'm worried about then going in the other direction -- peeling off one of the sites on the domain-mapped multiblog and putting it on its own install.

(Also, the sites are currently not on the Wordpress platform, so I would be making a switch of platforms in the beginning .... but that's not really my concern.)
