Does anyone have any tips that I can use on creating a custom background for my YouTube page. We are getting ready to start some video marketing and I need this to be a very good looking and informative page.

Where is a good site to go to get this done professionally or free? Are there any free templates that are worth using?

fiverr.com is awesome for this. Also check vworker.com, 99designs if you REALLY want an awesome one... but it will cost you much more. Zeerk.com, elance.com, craigs list, as well as the ones mentioned above.

Hire someone who will do this. You can hire at fiverr.com, here at warrior forum hire section, odesk.com, freelance, etc. Choose the best and cheap for hire person.

To be honest, I like the original layout best because it flows better with the rest of of YouTube. - Doesn't feel like you are taken to a different site.

That said, use the search function in Fiverr for some awesome ones!
