I am really upset - all my ebook sales have stopped...

Hi there,

I just want to run this past you and hope someone can offer me any feedback. I launched an ebook a few months ago and I was getting sales each month just from a few articles. My traffic has dropped over the last couple of months and this probably is as a result of the Google updates - I would probably say the traffic is now about half of what it was. I was getting about 2 opt-in’s a day and now about 1 opt-in a day so this kind of makes sense.
However my sales now are ZERO and have been for over two months now. I want to check over everything as much as I can to make sure all is in order. So far:

1. I did a TEST sale with Clickbank and the notification came through to my email correctly.

2. After a customer purchases on Clickbank order form they are directed to payment page where they need to “opt-in” into my “sales list” in order to download paid for ebook. I therefore can see in Aweber that the figures have been ZERO under this “sales opt-in” which ties in with no sales!

3. This is something though I really do not understand – when I type my KW into Google my site comes up no 1 and the URL is displayed as www.ABC.com/?hop=xxxxxxxxxx in the Google listings. When I click on the link my sales page shows up with
www.ABC.com/?hop=xxxxxxxxxx in the browser. What is this hop thing? I am just a vendor and don’t believe I have any affiliates. Also when I typed in the KW yesterday a “DIFFERENT” hop code showed up than the name showing up today. In Google Analytics under “content overview” it shows both these hop codes with many page views.

4. When I click on to payment links on sales page it shows my correct Clickbank URL with my product number and my Clickbank ID.

Sorry to go on I just wanted to give as much info as possible – can anyone offer any advice to me regarding this or mention any further checks I can do. I really would like to know what point “3” above is all about.

Please can someone offer some help as I just want to make sure everything is running as it should be and of course I would have expected less traffic may result in less sales but I am abit anxious they are now ZERO.

Thanks a million.

If you will get quality website traffic you will get sales. The following thread will help you:

    http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...d-traffic.html

Coming to your third point, you should not worry about it.

Its possible that google indexed your website from a place where there was your hoplink which redirected to the url you mentioned. As its not Clickbank URL, any added parameter to your own URL will not affect your Clickbank payments & you will get paid full sale value.

    Hope to have helped.

    Cheers

Is there a reason for my site being indexed like this or is this the norm?

Thanks everyone for your helpful replies, I guess things are working as they should be, I just need to continue marketing it.

Its just normal, it can happen, you dont have to worry about indexing in this way at all.

Be consistent, analyze your traffic, optimize your offer / site for better conversions & you will start making more sales for sure.

        Cheers

It could be other factors. IE: I was selling an ebook about Pokerstars. Sales dropped dead as soon as the US govt stopped live gambling with Pokerstars. I wasn't sure how this would effect the sales when I heard about it. Now I do. It seems that US customers were the bread and butter for that product.

Checking your web stats (IE: using statcounter - it's free) can answer a lot of questions.

If you dropped in rankings, then here is your answer. Or maybe your niche is seasonal and your visitors don't realy buy in this time period.

    There are many factors involved.

There are so many reasons for sales to drop suddenly and all you can do is keep trying to market it or look for affiliates. Some products just are more popular seasonally. I have some items that do wonderfully three months out of the year, consistently seven months out of the year, then are dead for two months. Try new marketing methods and work on new products . It is always good to have many irons in the fire.

It's really tough to respond without knowing what the product is, or at least the niche it is in.

Last time I had a product that essentially stopped, I found that someone else had a new competing product with "better claims" (they lied through their teeth) and a lower price that initially got them a chunk of sales. Over time, things levelled out and they seemed to go away (perhaps they got too many refunds and were dropped by their payment processor due to the inflated claims?).

Short term sales fluctuations on a low volume product are extremely hard to deal with. Though there are lots of products out there that are very good products with low volumes (1 or 2 or so a day), the numbers can vary by a huge amount without any apparrent reason.

Of course (as has already been said) perhaps the product is seasonal (or if not, something seasonal is taking the attention of your customers) and you are experiencing a normal fluctuation as a result.

By having products across several niches or topics, you can sort of level this sort of behavior. When one product hits a slump, another may be at a peak, and it tends to make for a more consistent income...

you need to keep adding fresh content if you want to grow search engine traffic - if you don't make any updates for several months, then traffic is guaranteed to drop off a bit
