Newbies, Avoid this Subscriber Tracking Mistake

Hey Newbies.

I'm going to write this as clearly as I can so that anyone can understand. Ask questions if something is unclear-- the folk in this forum are very helpful.

I'm going to assume that you already know the most important thing for you to be doing is to build your list. If not, you should probably stop reading this and go search the basics of list building. I highly recommend anything from fellow warrior Sean Mize (username MizeSean).

In building my list, I am using the Aweber autoresponder, which I highly recommend for newbie Internet Marketers.

An autoresponder is the program that keeps track of the people that subscribe to your email list and sends them your automatic emails.

The way you get people to sign-up for your list is to have them fill out a "form" which your autoresponder provides. Aweber allows me to have several forms all attached to the same list.

The mistake I made is that I only used a single form on multiple websites. I was using Google Analytics to track my visitors to my websites anyway so that I could see where my subscribers are coming from.

(I want to know where my subscribers are coming from so that I know which sites are working and which ones may need improvement)

Now while I am not exactly new to Internet Marketing, I just started experimenting with blog marketing, and some of my blogs are Wordpress, which allows you to change the entire website visuals with a "theme"

What I didn't pay attention to was the fact that if you change your theme, Google Analytics may not properly track your subscribers.

And because I made the mistake of using the same exact form on all of the sites, rather than using different forms to connect to the same list, I cannot tell where the last few dozen subscribers came from.

If on the other hand I were to use different forms-- and I know better but I was just being lazy and depending only on Google Analytics* -- Aweber would have told me which forms where getting the subscribers, and I could have then known which sites they were coming from.

If this isn't a clear explanation, just ask. I can answer or any of the many other very helpful folks here.

*Note that I am NOT blaming Google Analytics. When you change your Wordpress theme it clearly reminds you to make sure the Analytics is still working, and I overlooked it.
