Have I got this numbers right? Seems difficult to earn good money...

Lets say you have a commission of 5 % and a CTR of 25 % on your site. Every sale is 50 USD = 2,5 USD in commission / sale.

With 1 sale per 100 clicks = 2,5 USD/400 visitors.

To make 25 USD/months you need 4000 visitors/month.

To make 250 USD/months you need 40 000 visitors/month.

To make 1000 USD/months you need 160 000 visitors/month.

Isnt 160 000 visitors a month a lot? That´s like 5000 unique visitors / day.

I know, this isnt rocket science, but it had me thinking if what it takes to make a profit with IM.

Hmmm...but on the other hand...that´s just 1000 visitors per day on 5 different webpages...or 100 visitors a day on 50 pages...not so difficult after all...

Any comments?

    What niche are you in?

I haven't checked your maths, but can't you do better than just $2.50 per sale or doesn't your niche allow it?

      It´s just an example.

Amazon pays 4% initially, and many things on Amazon is around 50 bucks. I target items above 100 usd for the most part, so make that 80 000 visitors in order to make 1000 US/month

    Solutions:

    Promote products with higher commissions...
Create your own products keep 50% - 100%...

On a $97 product you only need 86 sales per month to achieve $100,000 a year. Achieving 86 sales is much easier than 4,000 sales.

Why dont you try promoting digital products, they tend to pay very high rates of commision as their unit costs are pretty much zero. I've never fancied promoting Amazon products because as you alluded to, its too much work for too little return...

Actually, Im doing that to. I have a site promoting ClickBank products but the competition on CB is so much higher than on Amazon.

On Amazon, I can find a new interesting niche every day, but on CB I have a hard time finding good products with low/medium competition.

      Do the opposite.

First dominate ONE niche you know in advanced there is market for, and then, you'll have more options to sell - including your own product.

      Go for the basics: NICHES.

People make good money selling to the rich. But the rich got rich selling to the masses.

There are plenty of markets where you can make much more per click than that. And many more where the dollars per click are low, but traffic is easy to come by.

There are lots of ways to slice and dice Internet marketing...you just need to find one that works for you.
