Although it's not healthy to dwell on the past, if you were to start your IM career over and knowing what you know now, what's the one thing you would change that would have saved you lots of time and money?

    PAY FOR COACHING.

    I'm all for teaching myself things, but in a field where information overload is such a huge problem, paying for a coach was the best thing I could have done. By having a PROVEN coach show me one proven method, it drastically reduced my learning time and I started making really good money right away.

    The trick is to find a proven coach. Find one that has time and time again helped their students make a lot of money.

      That's exactly the same one thing I would have changed, I would have went straight in for a reputable coach, one who's been there done it and has a great reputation for results.

    Hi william1872,

    You don't need to be jumping on every trend, there are way too many. Find your groove, focus on it and generally ignore the rest. One thing is constant - other people selling stuff will tell you that you cannot afford to miss out on the latest craze. I say, you cannot afford to take these people seriously and you will do better by understanding their motivations and what they are all about and develop a habit of patting yourself on the back when you learn to tune them out of your consciousness.

    This is a fast moving environment, things change quickly. Often, by the time you are up to speed with something it's peaked. So you have to get up to speed to match that pace and adjust your planning to accomodate this. It's very hard to build for the long term because no one has much of an idea what that future is going to hold and these changes are only accelerating - so stay flexible and don't rely on things as much.

    Try and find things that are more evergreen than fleeting, as building things around them will provide more stability and endurance.

    you have to pick the right WSO's that help you on specific problems for example backlinks or ranking. it wont help if you just read a wso about facebook marketing if you don't plan on using facebook to market, if you know what i mean

    I would have taken massive action from the very beginning and not been drawn into each of the latest methods that poured into my email. LOL

    But the key one for me would have to be the action. Once you decide on a method and a product, get to work. It's the only way to see results.

    I think I'd give the 'low information diet' a go -- stop thinking and start doing quicker and faster.

    Which route you choose to follow online matters less than having the perseverance to follow through, complete projects, learn and improve... even when it's boring!

    @Kenwrites

    Massive action is where it's at Ken and something I certainly didn't do, to bogged down with information and not really knowing what to do with it all!

    @gotti3636

    There are certainly things I will outsource but at the moment cash-flow is tight and having to do the bulk of the work myself, reason for a tight cash-flow is me wasting to much money from the start

    @Big Al

    A great couple of tips there Big Al

  • 1. Not Left My Day Job. It is a lot harder when there is no money coming in.
    2. Hired a Coach (Immediately)
    3. Spent as much time as I needed to on creating a detailed plan.
    4. Focused on 1 Technique until I mastered it.

    Thanks for the question.

    Well if knew then what I know now here are ten things I would have done differently

    1. Would have started the warrior forum before Allen (back when it was just a basic bulletin board)
    2. Would have did exactly as Mark Joyner did and became his clone
    3. Would have done key word searches before buying domain names and putting up websites
    4. Would have invested in Google
    5. Would have stuck with internet marketing and not done taxes
    6. Would have instituted email capture systems and follow up from day one (in 1998)
    7. Would have continued teaching myself HTML instead of being lazy and using front Paige (we are talking about then - in 1998-99)
    8. Would have hired and trained a sales staff to sale my Internet products off line
    9. Would have taken the marketing system I learned from a company called J&R Sunshine And Cheer and refined it repackaged it and sold it as a product.
    10. Focused on a just a few things and not spread myself so thin

    You're going to fail. If you're afraid of failure then you do not belong in the Internet Marketing Business. Period.

    I would have stopped jumping all over the place and stuck with one method and one method only. I would pour over the IM forums and read my contant emails about the various things people are doing to make money on. I was giving up projects half way through and start others.
    Actually, now that I think about it, before I did any of that I could have taken Ritalin to deal with the ADD!
