What to do with my list?

Hey All,

I have a list of about 4000 with a good (in my opinion) open rate of about 30%. It use to be a lot higher but I've switched brands/ideas/thoughts a lot and I think people started to notice the inconsistency. I've never felt 100% comfortable in the niche I was in and I think I've mentioned that before in other posts.

I've been in business for over a year now but it's been a journey and I've constantly evolved.

I finally realized recently what my 'legacy' is in terms of what I want to accomplish with my life/business and I'm ready to revamp (for the final time) to build my business in a really fulfilling way.

I was wondering if anyone had tips on what to do with my list? Currently I send out a weekly action tip with marketing advice but I can see this going a lot of ways:

Tell them (for the 3rd time) that I'm changing sites/visions:

a) keeping them all on my list but getting more unsubs (when i switched last time, i noticed 10-20 unsubs an email compared to 1-5), spam marks and lower open rate

b) sending a new opt-in notification which may mean losing 70% of my list.

What would you do and if none, what's a better solution??

    Why you not sell mailings?

Just do some good old fashioned segmenting.

Do it like a product launch. Make up a short series with free, free, free, then opt-in to really entice the most targeted prospects into this new direction.

Whomever doesn't come along for the ride can stay on the old list getting the old tips, and the new folks are your core audience and best responsive to the new ideas anyway.

You'll lose a few in the transition off the old list, but you'll gain perspective on who really "gets" you and your ideal plan. (and still have most of your old list)

My thoughts exactly. This is what I would do.

I was in a situation like yours.. built up a popular site, but got bored with posting that kind of content and decided to focus on what I enjoyed doing.

I started a fresh list but emailed my existing subscribers to firstly explain where I was at, and secondly to ask those who were also interested in marketing to join my new list.

I could have sold my old list, but it's a crappy thing to do imo. Or start sending offers to products I didn't really believe in... another crappy thing to do imo.

But you do have options at least.

Yeah I agree segmenting is probably your best option, selling your list is bad practice!!!
