For one you can go to ebay pulse and amazon best sellers to get an idea of what people are buying and build your niche from there.

Go to google trends and see whats hot which maybe profitable. You can go to flippa and find out whats hot in terms of the clickbank products that are selling. Use the google keyword tool to research on different keywords within the niche to see if it gets high volume of traffic and see if advertisers are paying alot for those keywords in that particular niche, because if advertisers are paying alot for keywords in the niche, chances are they are making alot of money in that niche.

Well, u can search for a profitable niche in two basic ways. Way one is by using software and way two is doing it manually, with the help of G##gle. One thing people forget is that all the good software out there use G##gle data. The only difference when u do it manually is that the process is much slower and harder to do correctly if you don't have a good grasp of SEO and related info. If u want to use G., just go to G. insights, G. trends and G. kword tool.

For a real simple search just go to dummies.com - those are the hottest and most profitable niches you can find. All the heavy lifting in market research has already been done.

If it's an Amazon bestseller - it's got potential.

If it's got magazines - it's got potential.

If it's got Dummy books - it's got potential.

If it's got seminars - it's got potential.

If it's in Consumer Reports - it's got potential.

I would consider that to be product based research. We find out what's selling and what people already want and move from there.

Now let's move on to problem based research.

Try out a couple of "gold" diggers using the Google Keyword Tool. Type these in one at a time to find out problems people have:
    how do i
    overcome
    how to
    where can i

Now think, based upon these problems you may find (how do i get rid of acne, for example), is there a product or service that would solve it? Can you be an affiliate for such a product or service? If you're unsure, check out Clickbank or Amazon.

One last technique involves a special search string you type into Google. Stephen Pierce explains it well here:

Free Keyword Research and Market Research Method You’ve Never Seen Before

The problem is that profitable niches can now be hard to find. The niche in my signature is probably the most consistent and easiest to deploy. Lead generation (tax leads, car insurance quotes) are awesome cuzz you aint trying to sell sh.. but you need to be able to capture the leads yourself and then find someone who'll pay you $35 a lead. Good luck.

The method I use consist of multiple resources. First I stop by Clickbank and spend some time looking at top sellers. This is achieved by looking at products by order of popularity. My nest stop is Amazon where I use pretty much do the same thing basically making note of best sellers and My third place to look is Ebay.

By now, I have a few ideas and I head over to Google and do basic keyword research. By the end of this research I have a pretty good idea if the niche is going to be profitable. I know this because I by now have examined searches per month and competition. Often at times, hot topics at forums can also indicate that there is an interest in this particular niche.

In my opinion there are multiple ways to achieve this, some can be done using free tool while others require an expensive software. it boils down to where you are in your business. When you do find a profitable niche however you must do everything you can to duplicate the process for maximum profit.

There is some software on the market that helps you check this, they take google search results and calculate the amount of the bids going through adsense for those keywords etc. The key is to find a less competitive yet profit potential niche

Surprised no one has mentioned this yet... try using some keyword research software like Traffic Travis. Using it you can research keywords, competition, SERP listing analysis, PPC prices for those keywords and all kinds of helpful things.

With all this information you can determine if niches you are thinking of entering are profitable, largely from the PPC competition for various keywords. If people are consistently paying for PPC for those keywords, they are obviously profitable.

I wrote a full review for the traffic travis software:
(SEO) Search Engine Optimization Software – Traffic Travis Review - Robert's Review Blog

They have a free version (3.0) and a paid version with 60 day trial (4.0)
You can read that page and get an idea of what the software does and how you could utilize it to start searching for profitable niches and keywords.

    GL.

From an overall point of view, there are no profitable niches. Or maybe every niche can be profitable.

I am thinking along the lines of how someone could make a profit. It is by selling a product for more than it took you to produce that product. And those kinds of things you can probably find in almost any kind of niche.

If what you are looking for is a niche that has a lot of products in it, with big groups of buyers who can buy things online, and can be reached easily with a sales message, that is a different kind of search.

As mentioned, you can look for magazines in the niche. That works pretty well. And if you actually get one of those magazines and look through the ads, both the ads in the content portion and in the classified sections in the back you may find a wealth of product information that you can take advantage of.

It helps too, to see if you can find keywords related to the actual product sale. These keywords often show up in Google suggest and there are many excellent tools that can help you get keywords from there.

And sometimes, they also show up in the wonder wheel.

It helps too, to look for forums centered around your niche market and see if people in those places are talking about particular products.
