When you ask to be mentored, start with a list of the skills you feel you already bring to the table. That will help match you up with someone willing to show you the ropes in exchange for your expertise.

yea, a good mentor is going to cost you a pretty penny. i would just read up on your own and start testing out ideas. remember, it's all about offers and traffic. test different kinds of offers in different kinds of markets until something sticks.

Yeah you're not going to find anyone to guide you without any sort of gain for themselves. Like said before, you need to figure out what you can bring to the table, or you need to be ready to spend some cash on coaching (which is similar to having a mentor).

Yeah, mentoring is going to cost you...

I invested over $3k on my first coaching program.. And I was a baker at a restaurant, so this was a lot of money to me at that time.

I was hungry, could barely afford rent, and it was rough at first.

And I didn't see money rolling in right away either. But I did learn a lot, and this turned out to be one of the smartest moves I made in my career.

My advice on finding a mentor is to find someone here who obviously knows their stuff, has an impressine enough website, and is NOT yet making millions. That way, they'll be more accessable and can actually spend some time with you for your tuition. As opposed to a multi-millionaire guru who won't get out of bed for a measly $2,000.. let alone spend hours at a time with you teaching you how to write copy, set up your capture page, and helping you succeed.

I invested $7000 like 10 years ago and much more since then but it was worth it. I had one person attack me for charging to my coaching program that it needs to be free, I did free coaching but I realized fast that people don't do what I tell them and when I charge them they do. I have a frined who told me he has a 100% success rate be because he charges $25K for his mentoring basically he says after they take out a second mortgage to pay him they just can't afford to fail and he claims they don't, I have a 75% success rate but I charge very little when I do it this year I only coached half a dozen people, it's very time consuming and I don't like to outsource it like my buddies do (I probably should it would be way more profitable)

People don't recognize value if you give stuff away for free. That why we price test.

If someone is willing to invest several thousand bucks on information, they're much more likely to apply what you teach them.

And as for a free coaching program, that's rediculous. All of us marketers who have achieved a certain level of success have worked our tails off to get where we are today, paid our dues, and sacrificed (sometimes heavily).

We deserve to be paid for our knowledge.

Would you pay a doctor for his/ her advice? An attorney? Or anyone else who has gone through specialized training in their particular field to get where they are?

Of course, because they can provide a valuable service that most people cannot. And that's why they get paid a premium.

So how is marketing any different? Why should we give away our knowledge to someone who isn't willing to pay for it.

Not only did many of us here invest (at least) a few thousand bucks for our education, we've also spent many years of our life paving the way for ourselves and the next generation of marketers.

If I can teach someone the exact business building strategies and secrets that have taken me years to learn, and save them many years of frustration and struggle by helping them bypass the traditional and costly learning curve, I deserve to be paid a premium as well. Same with anyone here.

If you devalue your information, you'll only attract a different type of prospect.

While I'm sure there are some Warriors who would be willing to do this, most of them will probably charge some kind of fee. Why? Because their time is extremely valuable and they don't want to invest that time in just anyone, even more true if they're busy running / managing their own enterprise(s).

So before asking for such help, you should make a list of what kind of experience you have. What are you specifically interested in? How much time do you have to put into this endeavor (hours per week / per day)? Have you started a business before? What kinds of courses have you already invested in, if any?

Are you willing to do some work for free to "learn-the-ropes" so to speak for two good reasons:

a). To learn by doing.

b). To demonstrate to your mentor / coach that you're willing to be dead-on serious about this and treat this like a business by setting aside an X amount of hours and following through on the assignments?

If you can come up with a more detailed thread, you might actually get a couple people to take you on.

It's a two-way street. I don't know of many mentors who would take somebody that wouldn't be willing to do a certain amount of work for them too.

This is great step, by asking you will receive. I was in the same boat as you and since I wanted it so bad I spent my last dime to go to live events to meet these so called gurus. I was frustrated, but after meeting a couple of awesome people in this WF community things have been looking good.

i totally understand that time is money, i totally get that. I actually had a few responses to my post (private msgs) of genuine people offering their help. I've taken them up on their coaching and hope to learn a few things to get me on the right track. Ok warriors ... instead of asking for a mentor, how about honest opinions about WSO's. What are some of the best "beginner's guide to IM" products out there. I know most people on here, including myself, have bought numerous WSO's. Without promoting your own product, can you tell me what if any types of products helped you the most as a newbie. everyone was a newbie at one time, what product helped you get on that track to a successful IM career. My mind is wide open, my path has yet to start, I am a quick learner who can adapt and has a drive to succeed. This is the career that I am going to retire in. What I'm trying to say is I'm open to all suggestions (CPA, CPC, article writing, etc.) any and all methods is what I want to learn. Where do I start, help me write chapter 1 of my IM success story. I want the mindset of a advanced Internet Marketer ... where do i begin? Suggestions please ...

I started with Dan Brocks deadbeat affiliate course. It helped me learn the ropes of affiliate marketing and was laid out so that i could follow it all step by step.

Since then I've found gems of information from other places and basically found what works best for me through trial and error.

If I had my time again I probably would have started with Jan Roos or Paula and Wanda's course, although I don't think either were available at the time.

My suggestion is to focus on two things...

1. Mindset - Get "Think and Grow Rich" (or any of the popular mindset books, even something like The Secret) and also a subscription to Success Magazine.

2. Something That Works - Find something that is working for somebody, which you think will also work for you, and stick with it until it does.

Most people give up too easily, going from one thing to another, before anything has a chance to take hold. These guys who make it look easy most likely had to stick with it a while before it was and the guys who have had it easy from the beginning, without sticking with it, probably don't have the skills to keep it up for every long.
