Who uses squidoo anymore?

I used to use it and went back and checked my traffic stats...

I realized I have been getting about 40 visitors per day and I haven't built one backlink to my squidoo lenses!

I have a few lenses in Squidoo but they have never picked up and gotten that much traffic. I never backlinked or promoted them though.

        Hi Mike,

I use Squidoo since it's beginning. I also use Hubpages.

Both are great places for me with the ability to insert rich media files.

Helped very much in my SERP ranks. Top 10 in a few niches.

Traffic wise, it does help. But most of my traffic comes from elsewhere.

I use it once in a while, but prefer hubpages or just putting the content on my own site. These web 2.0 sites are too susceptible to Google's whims.

I have many, many lenses & one has been in the the top 100 since May of 2008 & in the top tier ( top 2000 lenses) for about 1 year longer.

Love Squidoo although sometimes I have so much fun there I neglect my own properties.
    I find it relaxing.

I love squidoo too, its so easy to use, great for testing out a niche before building a big site and since they cleaned their act up Google don't seem to mind them too much either

Honestly, I used to use it all the time.

Now, I use it only for backlink building since Squidoo lenses have do-follow links

    Squidoo is awesome!

Great for direct traffic, great for a quality backlink.

Since the Panda update it is slightly less effective than it used to be, but still well worth using.

    Cheers,
    Dave

The odd time I add a lens just for the backlink, not worth it if you are trying to make money from Squidoo though.

I use it all the time to test niches and build backlinks to my sites. A Squidoo lens targeting a low-comp keyword + 5-10 BuildMyRank links = almost guaranteed page 1 rankings. Got a ton of lenses out there, most aren't making much but it's still 100% passive income, while also providing link juice to my sites.

I used to use Squidoo back in the early days when it used to drive oodles of traffic to my sites. It was great at the time, and was ridiculously easy to rank well with. I don't use it anymore though.

Once Google fell out of love with Squidoo, and I realised that I really had no control whatsoever over my own content, I left it to concentrate on more profitable avenues (my own sites).

I think Squidoo is another great place to build some links and invite additional traffic for your site. It's easy to create a lens from scratch especially when you have materials from your own website. You can update it quickly too, so yeah, I think it's also worth the time

I think it depends upon what niche you're in.

When I first registered with Squidoo, my topic was one of the "Squidon't" (or something similar), banned topics on Squidoo, even though my thread was not promotional. I was hoping to use that article as a link back to my site for traffic.

So if you're in a niche that is PERFECTLY OKAY with Squidoo, you can use it for affiliate marketing.

But don't focus much of your time building backlinks to your Squidoo site, use it to build links back to your OWN site.

As with all web 2.0 properties, you have not control over them. One change in the TOS and all your hardwork will be gone.

Judging by the various comments in this thread, it seems that not many people visit Squidoo lenses. The reason must be that surfers do not value to Squidoo name a source of good information. Google can easily see the CTR on its result pages and sees the Spuidoo spots are ignored, and therefore follows the lead of the public an slapping Squidoo down the SERPs.

"Not many people visit Squidoo lenses", eh. Instead of listening to random comments from people who used to use Squidoo, or made a couple of lenses and then abandoned it, or otherwise didn't make the most of it, you could look at actual traffic stats.

Here's a comparison of how Panda affected Squidoo vs Hubpages, for example:
\How Google's Panda Update Impacted Squidoo and Hubpages Traffic

Or take a look at some of the top 100 lenses:
Squidoo : The Top 100 Lenses

And plug them into the lens valuation tool to see actual traffic:
    Valuation for Squidoo Lenses [Beta]

The top lens gets 563 visits per day. #100 gets 624 a day.

My own top lenses, none of which are in the top 100, get 200-300 visits a day. And they pass on a nice and very targeted chunk of that to my money sites: squidoo visitors are my best ad-clickers and product-buyers by far, much better than Google traffic.

Your results from Squidoo depend on how you use it. GIGO.

      I use it

Bewteen 100 - 1,000 hits per page per day depending on the niche is nothing to sneeze at in my opinion - good volume of sales and of course there is the tier payments which are quite nice.

Integrated into your own domains, other web 2 properties etc it's worthwhile as far as I am concerned

Its all dependent on the niche, keyword, and your goals.

Can Squidoo help out? Yea, but only if you use it properly. There's a whole game on how to use Squidoo properly.

Generally speaking though, I tend to utilize Squidoo for smaller keywords to my broader niche subject. I'll design pages around my secondary keywords and then link them to my specific page on my money site.

I'll then backlink the Squidoo pages, and utilize some techniques to get PageRank from within Squidoo so that it passes it off to my money site.

I use it all the time to build backlinks, and the tier payouts and Amazon sales make it a nice $150-200 a month extra, sometimes more.(a lot more during Fall holidays) Google seems to love it. I am ranked #1 for quite a few of my squidoo pages.
