Anyone used ALE? Help needed.

I have been trying to put the "awesome link effects" to use, but on clicking the link, it staraightway transfers to the linked page, without giving the desired effect.

I have tried changing the permisions to 644, but it does not help.

Any one here tried that out? If yes, please help me out.
