No Success In IM..Make Real Money With Virtual Currency

Here is an interesting story and a totally new strategy in making money online so to speak.

I guess there is a strategy in here someplace.

Tech Companies' Strike Gold With Virtual Currencies | Adweek

I thought Second Life was dead, but it seems it has many cousins that are alive and producing.

The author seems to like the subject, because he wrote on it earlier in the year. Here is another story: Facebook Makes 'Credits' Lone Gamer Currency | Adweek

Thoughts?

Sounds like another 'bicoin' type affair. Meh pointless. Usually takes 24/7 to generate any decent returns

This is nothing like bitcoin. Instead, it's more like farming gold in an MMORPG like WoW. Of course there's money in it - it's supply and demand - but it doesn't mean it's going to be very much.

If you have an entrepreneurial spirit and take risks and try unique ideas you might make some decent money from virtual ventures (like these guys seem to be), but if you aren't a pretty big techie it might be an area to stay out of...

Oh yea, websites like SecondLife are well and thriving. Whenever you have a platform where you can create something essentially for free but will be in demand from others who will put a significant $ amount to it you have an excellent business model.

That's exactly what those companies are doing by creating virtual currency markets for their virtual products.

It's a great business. There're tons of kids who play these games and if they are hooked and know that there is a possibility of getting these virtual goods, or increasing their performance, they'll even pay for it.

I would never actually try it because I'm not a programmer and programming the game would cost a lot of money and would consistently need security upgrades.

Personally speaking, I prefer making real money to pretend money. My bank manager has a bit of an attitude about me paying my mortgage with fake cash...don't know why

I have a confirmed report of a young woman who makes $8,000/month in Second Life. (That's in USD, not in Lindens)

Despite that, I found it to be too boring to even contemplate making real coin there.
