You are an affiliate marketer and I am building an online store. How do I attract you?

I am in the process of developing a number of online niche stores and would like to use affiliate marketers as my main source of marketing in the near future. What should I be doing from the very start to ensure that I have the best chance to attract YOU the affiliate marketers to be a part of MY affiliate program.

This includes: which type of market are you hoping that I am in? Would you rather me be as specialized as I can? Do you want high price/low volume products or low price/high volume? Do you need me to already have strong sales to consider me?

Anything from the nature of my market, the amount of information specific to the products I am selling, the amount of different products I offer etc, are all on the table. Basically anything you, the experienced affiliate marketer, would consider a neccessity to expect from the online store you are promoting.

Let's get creative. What are your thoughts?

For me, personally, I would obviously want products to be in the "internet marketing niche". This includes hosting services, ebooks, guides, courses, software, WSOs, etc.

I wouldn't really care how broad or specialized your products are, I would only expect them to be of good quality and value to the target audience of these products. Due to the nature of my advertising, I'd only hope the pricing was directly proportioned to the value of the product to the customer. Recurring billing products are a favorite.

For me, I'd hope to be able to review the product in full, not just because it is the nature of my site, but so that I, as an affiliate, would be able to accurately promote your product to reduce refunds.

Affiliate sub trees are also a big bonus. If I can acquire affiliates under me and get a % of their sales it will generally motivate me to acquire new affiliates for you.

    Hope that helps a little.

Give us good promotional tools that are copy and paste. This includes banners and perhaps an autoresponder sequence to mail to our list. The idea is to make it as easy as possible for affiliates to promote your product.

Of course, your product has to be good too =p and complementary to our niche.

Could I have some elaboration on what an autoresponder sequence to mail to your list would be? Also, thank you for the reply.

Autoresponder emails are a sequence of emails that are sent to a mailing list. You've probably signed up to peoples mailing lists and received autoresponder emails....you just didn't know they were autoresponder emails.

Have a writer write a bunch of 100-250 word articles that flow together that describe your product/service/niche in an easy to read format. Keep the article funs and interesting to read. Offer these to your affiliate marketers as promotional tools.

A few good banners, good commission rate, high price preferably.

    Free review copies are a must - I can't promote something I haven't tried.

Finally, your website needs to look nice and clean and have good copy throughout.

I would want your online store to have:

1 - exceptionally broad reach, in the US and abroad
2 - sell a huge variety of items from music, books, games, clothing etc.
3 - show a long term pattern of success and trust
4 - be a market leader in traffic and sales
5 - provide ground breaking innovation for sales, customer retention and convienience
6 - have a rock solid affiliate program, drop ship program, video on demand and throw in some hosting and cloud based services!

    Wait a minute!!
    that sounds like Amazon!, LOL

Look at other merhcants in your niche, see what they are doing right. Beat what ever they are doing. Make sure you have a solid product and pay HIGH commissions. No one will promote you if commissions are too low.

Not entirely true, amazon has pretty low commissions and they are one of the most popular affiliate programs on the planet. But, then again, they have a lot else going for them.

  • For me, what would be attractive is:

Something easy to promote, with high commissions (i.e., >$250/sale), recurring would be a really nice bonus, and of course adds exceptional value to the people I am promoting it to.
