Interested in finding a freelance writer ...tips anyone?

Where would I be able to find a really good writer that can and write out around 7 post for one of my niche websites?

Also how do I go about paying the writer ...I am a total noob that has never done this before and I tried searching the forum for answers but had a difficult time finding anything.

Any help would be appreciated ... :p

I always suggest the Warriors for Hire section. Many writers, like myself, post ads up there and include samples and testimonials from warriors. Most writes take Paypal. The majority also want payment up front but will offer some kind of guarantee.

There are a lot of great writers on this site, take a look. The main reason I love to outsource to Warriors is that you get to see a lot of testimonials from people on the forum which really helps show their credibility.

There are several good outsourcing sites, such as Scriptlance, ODesk etc. Just Google 'outsourcers'.

    Cheers,

Just wanted to add you can find good writers on craigslist as well. But here's my suggestion. If you only need 7 articles, and you're not looking for high volume or anything, just hire someone from the warrior for hire section.

No way in the world it's worth the hassle of trying to find you're "own" writer. Find one with a lot of great reviews and you'll probably save a ton of time.

I get excellent writers from www.odesk.com. Just hire contractors from the Philippines. They are really excellent writer and I can guarantee it. Not to mention that they charge very cheap, only around $1 to $3 per article.

This is basically a repost of something I posted earlier today. I like freelancer.com

I would send emails to the writers who bid on my projects offering to pay them xxx to write 5 test articles. I would pay them (via paypal) for the 5 articles regardless of the quality. I would continue to work with the writers that submitted decent (non copied) work.

I use those freelancer sites to test writers. I don't use them for work I actually need written. Once I find good writers I work with them through email directly and payments via paypal.

It takes some work and a little frustration but it pays big in the end.

PS: Sign up to Copyscape to determine if your writers are copying work from other websites/articles!

Everyone else has suggested excellent sources for writers. I would just like to add that you should not sell yourself short and aim for the cheapest writer you can pin down.

Most writers will be able to point you to their online portfolio. Spend some time reading through what they have written previously and find a good "fit" for the work you need. If he/she is more expensive than others, just remember, the work you are commissioning will (hopefully) sit on your web site for a long time. The better it is, the more successful you are likely to be.

Hire Filipinos - Find Online Workers in the Philippines | EasyOutsource is a great page if you want to outsource the writing to the Phillipines but please pay them a fair fee because there are some people who take advantage of their position and do only pay around 1$/Hour and that's not fair.

As said above, you can find good writers on the Warrior for Hire section.

I suggest only ordering one article at first to be sure you like the writer's style and the way they cover your topic.

Be very clear in what you want from the article. Tell the writer if you want a conversational or technical tone if that's important to you.

    List your keywords.

Tell the writer the webpage you'll be linking to so they'll know the purpose of the article and what you're trying to sell as the end product.

Resist the urge to hire the cheapest writers you can find. It will probably cost you more in the long run.

I am a freelance writer and currently running a special to, see my sig below. My advice is to find someone in the warrior for hire section that has been around for a little while. Also, it is best to stick with someone that was born in the USA or has English as their first language. It is helpful if they understand at least basic SEO.

You will have to put a little trust in your writer and give them a deposit upfront. I always ask for a 50% deposit upfront and the rest upon delivery. I think this is fair and pretty standard.

Warrior for Hire seems to be a good source of excellent writers. But if you're like most outsourcers, you probably want to get quality writing for less. One tip for you - the writing job section of Craiglist Manila is a great place to find really good Filipino writers. I know this because I used to outsource some writing jobs from there. It's an unknown secret that's yet to be tapped. =)

Most writers there are willing to work on a writing sample for your assessment. If after getting a sample article and you're not okay with it, at least tell the writer that he or she is not hired for the job. In my experience, I was so sick of outsourcers who would request for samples and after submitting them, I'd never hear from them again.

When i started freelancing, that's where I got most of my clients. One thing to keep in mind though - please be reasonable when it comes to rates. $1 per 100 words is the MINIMUM rate for most of us. Indian outsourcers would offer like $1 or $2 for a 500-word article. Not only that, they even have the thick skin to demand for a well researched, English-perfect article and boy, do they get harsh words from the writers, LOL! Well, their ads got flagged down. It seems that Filipino writers looking for work in Craiglist agreed on flagging job ads that offer outrageously cheap rates. I'm with them. $1 for a quality written article is not just cheap, it's wrong.

Pardon the rant. Again, consider Filipino writers if you want quality writing for less.

But of course I might be a little biased here.

I would go to odesk or elance because it's really simple to use and hire out writers. And you can pay the writer via any method, paypal is of course the easiest way.

Check Freelancer.com or Odesc.com. You can find lots of good writers in both.
I’ve found that aiming for the cheapest writer is not the wisest thing to do. A quality article written by a native English writer with a good portfolio is the way to go.

Have the writer write a short sample for you. Or pay them to write 2-4 articles initially. This allows you to see their writing style, see if they can follow instructions and/or iron out misinterpretations.
