    A press release is an article that you generate about your product/service/company and then distribute to news outlets to try and gain media attention (article picked up by major news websites, requests for interviews, etc.).

    The key difference with a press release is that it is essentially a new story, not just an article. Your press release should lead with the main story, and then expand on this in subsequent paragraphs. So you have an inverted pyramid, with the important information at the top, and the less important information below.
