Problem with Flippa Auction

Hi everyone!

This is my first post so I do apologise if it's in the wrong place.

I just purchase a website on Flippa for $1 dollar. The seller is now saying that he is not prepared to complete the sale as he has to think about fees, theme costs etc....

I was the only person to show interest in this, he did not set a reserve, and told that I was not going to increase my offer.

He has now sent me another offer saying that he is prepared to give me 4 websites for $200 and then charge me $4.95 for hosting each month. Unbelieveable!!

I know it was extremely cheap, which is why I went for it - I'm new to this game and wanted to test the water cheaply.

Does this count as being in breach of contract with me. He accepted my bid, now does not want it.

I told him if he did not want to go through with the sale that was OK - but as he is coming back like this it makes me think he just does not want to re-list and pay the extra fees.....

Any advice would be appreciated thanks!

Was it an accident that he did not set a reserve, or was this just a ploy to lure people in in an effort to sell them something else?

No - it actually says on the info page "no reserve - starting price $1". I put the offer in when I saw this, and he immediately accepted my offer. Just as the last hour of the auction was finishing, he then reduced the BIN price to $50.

If the seller had made a mistake, he did not have to confirm my bid. He could also have contacted me before the auction finished, but there was no communication until afterwards, when he said that he could not sell his site for $1!!

As I said, I know it was cheap - but if you are not happy with the price you are setting, shouldn't a reserve be set!!

I feel like I have been conned slightly - like I'll sell it for a dollar, but I'm not going to give it to you for a dollar. Instead I'll offer you 3 additional websites, make you pay $200 for them and then charge you $4.95 every month for hosting!!!

It sounds to me like he was trying to use the listing as a funnel into other sales tactics. This is against Flippa's terms. You should report him to Flippa and have his account banned, because some unfortunate people will fall for the con. On a side note, I know you know this, but you couldn't have expected to get much for $1 anyways Next time, remember, don't go for what's cheap, but instead what is valuable. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Good luck! Always feels good to help take a con out of their game

I'd contact Flippa for additional support in this matter, but chances are if he doesn't want to sell the site you won't be getting the website.

I wouldn't put a whole lot of focus into it, I'd move on and spend time building my empire if I were you.
