Using a countdown for Limited Time Offers - experience?

Hi,

Did anybody test out a countdown for Limited Time Offers to imply urgency?

I did a test myself with 50% off and a countdown with 1 day and 15 hours but people did not really jump on this offer. (The countdown uses the IP address and cookies, so it really works "serious")

Any others here who have experience with this?

As a consumer I hate them. I know it's fluff when I read it so the person doing this loses credibility with me.

But that's me and my twisted outlook on things....

It's like a mailing list popup. I use them as a marketer. I hate them as a consumer

    Hi enigma2k,

in my experiences it doesn't really work well. There can be some niches that are great for countdowns but like weblink29 said, consumers normally don't like limited offers because they notice them every day on different squeeze-pages and most of them do know that there will be another special offer soon and it's only used for speeding up the sales-process.

Does someone have good experiences with limited offers?

    Cheers,
    Daniel

Haha, personally, they crack me up!

If you come back the next day it is the same countdown, actually no matter when you come back, a month later, it still countdowns that today is the last they LOL .

If the offer is decent it might add some urgency. It all comes back how targeted your traffic is, how good your sales page is and how good the actual product is. If you have a compelling offer the urgency factor could be enormous.

I suspect it kind of depends on who is reading your page. If it is someone that has been around IM for a while, they might not believe the urgency.

If they are new to IM, they might indeed jump on the offer right away.

I suspect that in other markets it depends on what you are selling. I would find it a stretch to believe that there is only a certain amount of time to download my dog training ebook or my cheesecake recipe guide.

But for sure it is worth testing with various amounts of time to see if that makes any difference. Just a gut feeling, but I think anything over 24 hours is probably a bit too much to imply urgency.
