Is it possible to see how many sales a amazon item has had? Is costumer reviews a good way of looking at popularity?

    Chuck,

Down the right hand side of the page where the reviews are they list them in chronological order.
If the reviews were left 1 day ago, 3 days ago, 5 days ago etc etc that tells me that, at the minute, it is popular.

As for exact #'s of sales. we are not privvy to that info

Here's a trick that might help...

Do you suppose that Amazon knows what it's best sellers are?

If you were Amazon, and you had a top seller, what would you do?

    Perhaps run an Adwords campaign?

If you type a keyword, and you see Amazon running an Adwords campaign, do you suppose that they're doing that to financially support Google... or Amazon?

For example, anyone here make their own bread? Ever thought about grinding your own wheat? Ever typed "Wheat Grinder" into Google and looked at who's paying to advertise?

    Just a thought...

Click on Links & Banners. type in Search, within (amazon) and for (niche)

      search by: type in bestseller

All in the Amazon Associates section.

      That should help you

I see what you are getting at. Is a product a bestseller but only making 1 sale per week, while all the others are getting less. I tend to use my best judgement, look at the list of top sellers and try to guesstimate if the top 10 would ALL be hot sellers.

For amazon I like to look at where it is in the bestsellers (high up in popular categories is a good sign) and the amount of reviews, and how many recent reviews there are.
