Clickbank affiliate promotion: Will masking affect my payout?

Hi Warriors,

I have a query here regarding affiliate marketing.
Say I am trying to sell an affiliate product at greatdogcaretips.com.
The clickbank affiliate link, when clicked takes my customer to greatdogcaretips.com?hop=myclickbankid.

which I feel is not so professional.

So CAN I...

Buy a domain from godaddy like dogcareproduct.com, then use the godaddy forwarding and masking option to then forward this domain to greatdogcaretips.com?hop=myclickbankid. Since I am using masking, the product page will still show my domain dogcareproduct.com.

If I do this, can this sale be tracked by clickbank/product vendor and will I get the commission for my sales? Also is there a way to track the traffic coming in? Since I am redirecting right at the domain, I am not sure... Any ideas?

ClickBank's "official information" says that you're not really supposed to do this and warns that it may affect your affiliate commissions.

However, thousands of people don't believe that and do it anyway.

I've discussed it in some detail with someone who works for ClickBank, and I'm still doing it and not worrying about it, after that discussion, myself.

But you can only decide for yourself. There'll be people who read what ClickBank say about it on their information pages and advise you against it, and others (like myself) who have always done it - even after discussing it in detail with ClickBank - and don't think it's a problem.

Thanks Alexa. That was a crisp and clear reply.

Have you experienced the same in your stats?
Could you throw some more light on it?

I used to do it all the time, there's no problem. A redirect still sends the user to that link (example.com/hop.etc) so there's no technical reason for it not to work. Plus, I track my data very heavily; I'd notice a discrepancy.

    Warriors,
A query on the method that I am planning to adopt... Is this recommended?

I have no preselling, no webpage, no list building etc.
    My strategy is to....
    • get my site ranked to the top of my keyword in Google and hence get traffic.
    • Do some video marketing with my web link.
    • Comment in blogs.
    • Make use of signatures in forum effectively.
    • Use podcasting to market the product.
I know the importance of building a list which I plan to do soon. Please share your comments on this strategy.

    This may interfere with tracking..
Secrets of Using Domain Masking with Free Web Hosting

check under the heading domain name masking.. the code shows creation of frames and clickbank terms states :
Don’t mask or store your HopLink in a frame. For your HopLinks to be properly tracked, they must not be stored in a frame. If your domain is masked, your HopLink will be stored in this manner, and therefore will be unreliable.

so better stay away from that..

Why not use a WP plugin such as MaxBlogPress Ninja Affiliate? Not only does it cloak your links beautifully, it also keeps track of all your clicks.

    Indeed.

This is (part of the reason) why I actually discussed it at some length with ClickBank.

They were unable to give me any reason why it might.

      Hi,

I don't want to send one of my prospective customer to sales page, I rather want to send it directly to clickbank checkout page. How can I do it?

      http:// xxx.yyy.pay.clickbank.net/?hop=affiliate&tid=trackinghere&sku=123456789

      does this work?
it gets you just directly to checkout page with the necessary additions like affiliate and tracking..

      Do we loose commission?

      Best Regards
