Article Marketing: Should You Always Grab An Email Address?

I'm just beginning to take a serious look at article marketing and promoting products as an affiliate in this way.

I'm wondering if it's always best in your resource box to point people to a page where you can grab their email address, or if it's sometimes best to just insert your affiliate link and direct to a product?

Or maybe it's best to do something else?

Are you even allowed to have affiliate links in your resource box for EA?

Most article directories do not allow affiliate links, I know EZA don't and I know my directory don't...

You will want to direct users to your main domain, now if you use a opt-in form and just provide information that leads to the merchant with an affiliate link, this would be up to you ... Depends on how you want to run things.

I personally use no affiliate links at all ... So someone else using article marketing with affiliate marketing may be able to answer your question better.

Well that's at least answered one question. Now I know I need to buy related urls for the programs I want to promote.

      Thanks James!

Not a problem, yes I would invest in a few similar domain names.. Just make sure you can get .com if possible.

I've found getting a decent keyword .net is better than a weaker .com.

It's all down to getting the terms people search for, which aren't too competitive.

It's not my preference, but even .info's can do well. But usually take more time in gaining trust from the search engines.

The point of getting email addresses from your visitors is so that if they do not buy the product you're directing them to, you will be able to continue contacting them and try to convince them to buy. You do that by offering them valuable, free content for signing up. Intersperse those messages with promotions for your product.

Know the stats... people have to see your ad at least 7 times before they buy. Few people buy first time they see your offer. The only time they are most likely to buy right off is if the product is popular and they already read about it elsewhere. By the time they find your site, they're ready to buy.

As far as affiliate links in directories... read their individual terms of use. EA and several others do not allow affiliate links in the articles or resource boxes. Easy to overcome. Direct them to your site or blog where they can sign up for your free offer and get more details about the product you are promoting as an affiliate. Do a short review for them - about 5 paragraphs or so - to help convince them to buy or at least check out your affiliate sales page.

Well this is true... When I register a domain name I normally go for the .com and .net both, which ofcourse gives you more options and plus protects your domain from someone else trying to copy your .com by registering a .net...lol
