I think Godaddy let you get those domains at wholesale price, which is cheaper.

Domains at 2.00 of the market price.

Ability to sell a reseller license for whatever the market will bear.

so how do people profit with a web design business, lets say if they have 100 clients and they all have FREE domains, and im paying 2.00 each, they only pay me once for my service, and i keep paying for their domains, that doesnt make sense to me....

or is it just for the first year or something

The only advantage is that you get domains a little bit cheaper.

You can offer free domains to your clients and make money selling them web design or web hosting services.

If you are offering a free domain with a site it should just be for the first year. You never want to keep the domain in your own name, you transfer it to the customer as soon as you get paid for the site. The renewals are on them.

Basically you just work the initial price of purchasing the domain into your price just like any of your other expenses but it should be a one time cost for each client. If you are on a reseller plan you hope they continue to renew through you so you can get that couple of bucks each year per domain as a residual.

You do the same thing with hosting. You build your clients site on your hosting, give them some time period free or discounted and then the plan is for them to keep hosting with you as long as they have their site.
