How are .biz extensions for creating a niche site?

They are fine, but why use an "exotic" TLD?

I'd recommend sticking with .com's, nets or orgs.

Has no effect on SEO. It may be a little harder to drive traffic to, but only slightly. Some people may skip over a .biz because the trust level for .biz is not as high as .com, but many don't ever look at the extension when clicking sites on Google.

    • I've ranked .infos for keyword terms that were 200,000 allintitle. Some people will probably say it's a bad domain to pursue, but for physical product sites, I'd personally rather have a .biz than a .org, for instance.

I haven't run testing on it but seems to me that conversions would be higher if people saw .biz and knew the sale was coming...

I also haven't tested any .biz domains, James, but it seems to me that conversions would probably be lower if people saw .biz and knew the sale was coming.

I'm not saying this just to be contrarian about it: I do have a specific reason for thinking it might be so. I know that .info is more popular with my customers than .com is (I know this from having asked them), and I know that the reason is that many customers, who don't think like marketers at all, take "info" to be an "informational" sort of site whereas they think "com" looks like "company" or "commercial" and is likely just to be "someone trying to sell something". For this reason, they're less willing to buy from a .com website because they've been put on their guard. I suspect (but can't prove) that the same may be true of .biz. So, personally, I'd stay away from it, for that reason.

For resale value, .biz is likely to be worse, and .com the best.

If you don't own the .com yourself, you're going to lose some traffic to the person who does.

But for SEO purposes, of course, it makes absolutely no difference at all. (There are still a small number of people who imagine that it does, but that's just an urban myth of internet marketing, as Google and Matt Cutts have so repeatedly gone to such great lengths to try to make clear).

I like that you're straying from the path! But alas, .biz isn't quite as trusted when it comes to the typical internet surfer. They don't like change and don't trust something they don't know, so you risk that. It doesn't affect SEO or the way that Google ranks you though. I say go for it.

Maybe you just want people to know that you're conducting BIZnass on your site, and want to reflect it through your domain, I don't know. Maybe your domain of choice was taken and you lack the creativity to change it to something else, so you went with .biz? I don't know. Maybe you simply enjoy separating yourself slightly in an infinite electronic playground full of people trying to make money. I don't know. I like to personally guess that you're too stubborn to change domain names and chose .biz because it sounded biznass-like. If so, I like your style.
