Anyone Else Getting Serious Heartburn Over PayPal Locking Down Accounts?

I am getting some serious heartburn over PayPal starting to lock down accounts. It seems like this is really starting to execrate and I do not want to get caught without any options.

Can anyone give some advice on payment processors they are using and are happy with? I am on the Authorize.net website now looking to open an account but thought I would post this first to get some input.

I wouldn't let it get to you, honestly. If you worry about it on a daily
basis, it will start effecting how you think and overall your rate of which
you get things done. Although I am telling you not to worry about it, that
does not mean that you shouldn't be prepared for it. So, if you are able
to, open a merchant account as soon as possible. Check out alternate
payment solutions such as Google Checkout, Moneybookers, Webmoney,
    etc.

Here is the deal, if you scam, cheat, still and outright lie you will get burned !
But if you are stand up, take only honest payments from honest people then you will be just fine. Whats the problem?

Completely and utterly false. PayPal is banning people who are 100% legit, simply on the basis that we're in the Internet Marketing niche.

That's what I am hearing too Russ. The niche is far from squeaky clean and a little house cleaning is never a bad thing but it seams like it could be more than that. I agree.

Everything I do is totally on the up and up. But I am hearing about people getting locked down that are respected people in the industry. That is what worries me so I am looking for options.

Even respected people make mistakes. Most of the accounts that have been shut down have violated the PayPal TOS in some way, at least the ones I know about all have.

So far every single instance I've seen where PayPal shut down an account and the account holder was complaining about it, after a bit of discussion the account holder does mention something they were doing that was in volation of the TOS. A lot of the time the marketer thinks they are above board but just doesn't understand the TOS or doesn't know about a specific rule that they are breaking.

I feel you; I've got accounts at Google Checkout, AlertPay, and 2CheckOut standing by. Just in case.

But I don't expect any trouble. I think PayPal is just cracking down on people violating their terms. Out of the 15 or so people in the past two weeks who have complained their accounts were shut down, only TWO of them haven't had obvious violations on their sales pages.

The other two do, in fact, worry me... but I can't help wondering whether these are the same pages PayPal reviewed. It's incredibly easy to just go into your web host and snip out the violations after you're frozen/limited, then complain that there aren't even any violations on the page.

It also might not be the same sales page PayPal is making the fuss about; most of us have several, and if PayPal says "we reviewed your sales page and decided X" you might honestly not know which one they mean.

So with near-90% of the pages being in clear violation, I'm leaning in the direction of PayPal actually doing a decent job.

I'm a little concerned about rotating commission. We started doing rotating commission with PayPal because we had no choice; there was no "affiliate split" API. Now there is, with Adaptive Payments, and part of using that system is having your sales page reviewed by PayPal.

It's not unreasonable to think that PayPal might start to have an issue with anyone doing rotating payments, since it can be easily argued that you might be doing it to avoid the review process. That would primarily look like unfair targeting of RAP and WSO Pro, which in turn is likely to look like unfair targeting of the Warrior Forum... but I'm thinking the whole thing might be avoidable simply by moving to something with Adaptive Payments, like Andy Fletcher's DigiResults.com or BIG Mike's WP InstantPay plugin.

I've seen a couple people reference WP InstantPay... I might look into that. Thanks CD!

I have an affiliate link for it, but it would be sort of uncool to post it in the main forum.

Don't get me wrong. They have been great to me for years and haven't had any problems... just looking to see what else is out there.

What are the typical TOS violations that people have that gets them shut down? This is an interesting thread, but so far just anecdotal. I'd like to see some real world examples, maybe not with people's names or anything, but just something that could be done to get a PayPal account closed down.

What are these violations that are triggering shutdowns?

Paypal is one of the most trusted processors as well as the most skittish. I would stick with them but do not put all eggs in this one basket. Try Google Checkout for one and then a Merchant Account as well,do not just rely on payment processors alone,Moneybookers is another viable option. The only thing that I recommend and have personally used for solutions to Paypal issues is here: http://alturl.com/x8ecn
