WMV is kicking my A** on my first video, HELP Please!

Windows Movie Maker isn't difficult but I can't save my work!

I keep getting the same message every time I try to save my first video that took me 8+ hours to complete, (5 different tries). It is:

"Windows Movie Maker cannot save the file to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, and then try again."

I've checked all that and redone it but I can't save a .wmv to save my life.

What am I doing wrong? Please help!

Possible reasons you are getting that error:

The videos you loaded into the software moved. IE: Changed files names, changes directory names, if video loaded from dcrom was the cdrom removed from the drive?

Other possiblites: You are out of hard drive space. How much free hard drive space do you have?

If none of those are the culprit I have no idea.

Can you play (and view) the full movie inside windows movie player?

If the answer is "Yes"... are you sure you really have enough disk space to save the full movie? (WMV's are quite big)

EDIT: I think you find a possible solution to your problem here (fith post):

      • Hi,

This sometimes happens to me. Here's what I do:

Play your video from the beginning all the way through. The video should automatically stop somewhere on the part that is causing the problem. If you delete this clip or delete the clip and replace it with the original clip (not just from Movie Maker buy from the actual folder where it's located) then it usually works.

If that doesn't work (but it usually does for me) then head back to the beginning of the video timeline, and delete each clip one by one and try creating the video file. When it video creation process (rendering) begins to work you know that it was the clip that you just deleted was the one causing the problem.

This can be a lengthy process if you have lots of clips but if you've only got a few it's not too bad. It usually works for me.

        Keep me updated.
